Description Edit(2/15/2016).
Soooo....Rodney got some updates. The main ones are:
  • completely rebuilt the arms
  • filled out the legs
  • color blocked things a bit better
  • improved the shoulders and other internal structure in the torso
  • improved internal structure of the wheelchair
  • made the wheel chair more of a cross between a wheel chair and a race car
  • added a fifth wheel in the back to be more accurate to a real athletic wheelchair

About the MOC

Rodney was another "preplanned" MOC for me. I had the concept of a MOC in a wheel chair for a little while before actually building the MOC. However, the concept originally was somewhat different. He originally was going to have four arms, and a more beast like head with a mouth and teeth, his name was going to be "Kumpel" which has one meaning of "friend" or "buddy," and his color scheme was going to be blue, Violet , and black. After purchasing 8494-Ring Of Fire off ebay I simply had to use the parts with the stickers on them, which drastically changed the landscape of this MOC. I lost the four arms and beast-like head but was able to more heavily incorporate the racing influence I wanted him to have, as well as incorporating another concept I had for a while, which was having internal suspension within the MOC's body. I had conceptualized this as being either in the thighs, shins or torso. Seeing as how Rodney is a paraplegic, the torso was the only place this would work. It also made building his torso a lot easier.

Rodney is the third member to my "Liberated Robot Series ." You can also view the individual photos of Rodney, as well as all the other Liberated Robots HERE.

Bio(also updated)

Rodney Dieter was an athletic robot who participated in the robot racing league for years with great success. He won many races and almost seemed programmed to win. No matter what his competitor's tried Rodney and his owners always seemed to be a gigabyte ahead of the competition. That is however, until Rodney got into a terrible crash and was very badly damaged. The extent of the damage was devastating and would have required that Rodney be completely rebuilt. Instead of forgoing the cost to rebuild Rodney, his owners decided to scrap him download and rewrite his software into a new robot. The night before Rodney was scheduled for deletion and scrapped a mysterious gray robot showed up and rebooted him. With the help of another brightly colored robot that was traveling with the gray robot, they helped rebuild Rodney during the night while no humans were around. However, they didn't have the parts necessary to repair him completely and Rodney couldn't walk. They instead used parts from the garage next door to fashion him a makeshift wheel chair, a old device humans used when their lower extremities did not function properly. After fixing Rodney to a point of stability he explained to the other robots that he was going to be deleted and scrapped. When they heard this they immediately made Rodney part of the group and left the Garage.

For a while Rodney was another member of the group. He eventually became accustomed to both life as a fugitive robot, and life in a wheelchair. He even became quite good at maneuvering in a wheelchair. Unfortunately, his time with the group would be limited. One day the group was on the run and they came to a dead end. The other able bodied robots were able to scale the wall. While they were trying to help Rodney over he was hit with an EMP blast that knocked him unconscious. The other robots fell over the wall and were able to escape, but Rodney was apprehended and returned to his owners. Once back in the garage they rebooted him to analyze his new code. When they saw how well he was able to move within the wheelchair they instantly saw that Rodney would make a great spokesperson for disabled individuals. So they build him a new wheel chair gave him a new paint job, and started a new robotic sports league where they used old busted up robots. This gave Rodney an new lease on Life as well as helping other damaged athletic robots get a second chance to perform their functions and not become scrap. Now Rodney continues to play wheelchair sports and continues to help other robots become part of the Disabled Bots League. Meanwhile, the other group of bots that helped him escape his fate remain at large...

Yeah I was thinking the same exact thing when I was building this. I was wondering if anyone was gonna compare him to Joe.

DAMMIT
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
You beat me to it! I was totally gonna make a wheelchair for my mertoa moc, but you beat me to it! AGH, whyyyyyyyyyyyy

Great part usage, and the wheelchair idea was pretty original, I also like the piston in this torso. why? IDK, but it's cool <:3

Well I was beaten to the Wheelchair idea to. I googled it and found other wheelchairs out there, one of theme even remote controlled. [link] So don't feel too bad? I looked around and saw that even though the concept has been done, there was still space for it to look good so I did it. Mine isn't power functioned, but I didn't want a powered wheel chair.
Just cause I did one doesn't mean you can't or shouldn't, just mean I pissed on that hydrant before you did, neither of us pissed on it first.

Thanks Zach. As one of my toughest critics(who actually has room to be a critic)its always nice to hear I scored some points with you. I can't really say the idea was original since someone had it before me, and you had it as well. I did think the idea was very original when I came up with it because I personally hadn't seen a bionicle figure in a wheelchair before. Again, thanks, glad you like it.

Aw, cooooool <:u
mmmm, that hydrant is gon be soaked by the time I'm done with it

ohey, it's all good, when I wrote that comment, however, I was in a rush (had to go eat with my uncle dave (ye, dave))

SO, here we go with a couple suggestions:
Those legs look a little thick to be wheelchair guy legs, maybe "skinnify" them?(My grandmother, and a few of the men in my family, who needed wheelchairs, all had boney legs, so I know)
The torso and arms look fine as is, but would you conider making them a little bigger? they ARE his way of transport, and scince he's a racer, he ought to have a little beef on his bones.

Good.

S'alright

Okay so I had all those things in mind, and they're there, I just didn't want to overdo it. I didn't want him looking like Joe Swanson from Family guy. His upper body is bulked while his lower body is atrophied, but not in an overly obvious in your face way. The more I get feedback on this, I probably should have done a photo of him standing. Its hard to see but his legs are skinny, but more on a front to back way, side to side I kept them more in line with the thighs. If I bulk up his arms anymore I'd have to multijoint. As it was those rubber bands are there to provide more strength to the single joint that's there. I get what you're saying and tried to incorporate that, maybe I just didn't show it off well enough.

Oh yeah, definitely. Your icon is Brock Samson, so it doesn't surprise me that you're a fan. I do like venture bros. Its one of the few shows Adult Swim does that I like. That and Metalocalypse. Everything else is just stupid stoner bullshit with no plot or wit. I can't stand witless or ignorant humor. I haven't kept up with Venture Bros. though. I need to download it and see each season all the way through. What season are they on now?

Oh yeah. The episode with Brians dad going transgender was one of the funniest in a long time. HEY QUAGMIRE
WHAT??
I FUCKED YOUR DAD!

Oh, I love you, I totally agree about the shows on [AS] Shows like Tim and Erics "awesome" show are a prime example of the shittiness that AS has been reduced to.

im sorry.

"wheel done." Nice one! Thanks Ethan. Its not as original as everyone thinks. There's been wheel chairs in system and I did find someone who made a remote controlled power functions wheelchair, but it looked hideous and the figure in it was crap.

Nah, its cool. Don't apologize for

Oh shit this is cool. I like how you used the hoses for the wheels like I suggested. I really like the wheelchair and it's tilted wheels, and I love the colors. Do his knees bend though? You didn't show that anywhere.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Plague-Doc-Matteo In reply to welcometothedarksyde [2013-05-27 19:39:13 +0000 UTC]

OH Man The way I read that and it being from you was really fuckin funny. "Oh shit" is always a good reaction to get from a MOC. Thanks Liam. That turned out way more simple than when I first took a stab at this idea a while back I was trying to use bent axle connectors and it just didn't work, which lead me to scrap the idea. I'm glad I did cause this is what I got after coming back to it. The tilted wheels are indicative of athletic wheel chairs. The racing wheel chairs have a beam and a wheel on the front and I didn't want to lock him into just racing, so I went for athletic. The knees do bend yes. And he can stand on his legs, but its a bit difficult to get him to. I purposefully made his legs skinny and flimsy to represent atrophy in the legs like what happens to Paraplegics. I also purposefully didn't show him standing. But I guess I should have shown his legs straightened out a little more in the picture of him sitting on the kratta Jar. Oh well.

Lol You're welcome Dave, I just may have to critique this one. I can also see what you mean by the atrophied legs

Plague-Doc-Matteo In reply to welcometothedarksyde [2013-05-27 22:02:38 +0000 UTC]

I would appreciate that. Kakama King's Critique was too vague and Fatmans was...Useless? Or was it nonconstructive? I marked it as unfair for one of those two reasons.
That's good. I wasn't sure if people would pick up on that. I was wondering if I shoulda mentioned it in the description but I don't like giving everything away. If I explained every little thing I did I'd be writing descriptions that absolutely no one would read for being tl;dr. As it is they tend to be that way for most people.

It doesn't show on the MOC itself but I think you can go to his page and see it.

Oh I see, well that was actually one of the few instances where I would agree with you about not accepting a critique. I third of it had nothing to do with the MOC at all.

Plague-Doc-Matteo In reply to welcometothedarksyde [2013-05-31 12:39:37 +0000 UTC]

Exactly. I wasn't going to post that to my MOC, regardless of which MOC it was but especially not one I'm particularly proud of. That's why I'm glad you wrote a critique. KK's was good, but way too vague. I need a real critique on there. Thanks buddy.
