Description
About The MOC:Grum-Beep is just a little "doodle" MOC I threw together as stress relief after having an argument with family members. Usually my "stress MOCing" and normal MOCing are one in the same but since I am in between MOCs I threw together an angry little robot.
In some ways he represents me and how I feel sometimes, angry at how small he is in the world, wishing he played a bigger part and that there was more to his existence than the menial tasks the powers that be have assigned him. And although he puts on a mean face to look intimidating, he's really quite sad and lonely when no one's around.
I find it very relaxing working with bar and clip pieces. I don't know why, maybe it's their versatility or the fact that you can get all kinds of weird angles and geometries to happen with them, but I find it very soothing. I always enjoy when I can add little bits to MOCs and I also think that's why I've spent a considerable deal getting bar and clip parts for my collection.
Bio
Grum-Beep is an Alien worker/assistant robot who was left stranded on a remote Asteroid facility. Even though he was left behind and his primary function was to assist other beings and robots, his masters assigned him to maintain the outpost, even though they probably never plan to return to it. This unfortunately means Grum-Beep toils away day after day keeping the outpost in working order. He also has to fend off various space wildlife, which is usually much bigger than he is, hence is aggressive standoffish demeanor. Even though he knows his efforts mean nothing, his protocol demands that he obeys his commands to maintain the base. So he will perform this tasks until he becomes too damaged or can't repair himself enough to continue on and will eventually power down.
In essence he's a pissed off little Wall-E who got screwed over by the man.

Hah, reminds me of ROTF Wheelie.
Great expressive eyebrows.

Thanks. That was very much the inspiration here. I thought about giving him wheels, but then he wouldn't have stood up without a stand so I decided against it. But I definitely had Wheelie in mind.
How have you been Aaron? Haven't heard from you in a while.

I thought I saw Wheelie in here somewhere :3
Back to building again but this time I'm here to stay.
I've finally realised that I can't just cut lego out that easily so I'll just be a casual builder.
Kind of an epiphany really that took too bloody long to realise XD

Well it's about goddamned time. And I can't say I didn't tell you so. Though I'm curious as to what you think a casual builder is as opposed to literally anyone else here is. The only person I've ever heard of who is a "professional MOCer" is Mike Nieves and Nathan Sayawa who do commissions. I'm sure there's others out there in the world, but in our little bubble there really isn't anyone who's more than a casual builder. So I think you have a bit of a skewed perception of other MOCers there. We all do it casually just as a hobby, for fun. There are some people who take it way too seriously, but you have that in any kind of hobby or fandom. And you just have to ignore those people or tell em to fuck off and continue enjoying your hobby on your terms. If you wanna take a break from it, take a break. You don't owe anyone anything.
All that being said. It's good to have you back Aaron. Yuo're a good MOCer and you inspire a lot of others to build to. I'm glad you're building again.

It was frustrating seeing you time and again recede into yourself and "leave" again. I hope this time you stay. Though forgive me if I'm not surprised if you left again.
I hope you do.

Can't remember if I commented on this one or not, but it is really adorable. Love how posable he is and all the emotions you can display on his face.

Thanks. he was just a little doodle MOC but even when they're tiny I like them to be poseable. Its kinda like your little MOC Magz I think she's called?

Gale-OneOfMany In reply to Plague-Doc-Matteo [2016-02-14 17:39:34 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, Mags has been pretty much my staple miniMOC. I usually have her hanging around in my building area while my other MOCs sit on my shelf. She's kind of a little playmate for me and my MOCs as they get assembled.

Nice. I don't really have a MOC like that. Though I certainly have plenty of small MOCs I could do that with.

Neat little MOC with all his complexity.
I was going to comment about your picture quality, but when you mentioned that the MOC was built to relieve stress, I figured picture quality was the last thing on your mind at the time.

Exactly. Thank you for understanding. I'll bust out the tripod and take proper pictures of him. No MOC of mine should have blurry pictures. I've invested too damned much money into my setup for that. And also I didn't think anyone would really give a shit, but if you/people do, I'll make it right.

Thanks greg.
I imagine you do something similar with your art. I'm sure you can figure out how to get all ragy/venty/angsty on fractals. Or maybe try other art forms. Is there ways you can blend stuff like create a fractal then move it into another program to like distort it or do all kinds of cool effects? Or do the fractal programs do that stuff?
Honestly I don't understand the process, with digital art I've seen it I get it, it's electronic drawing or painting. Your kind of art boggles my mind, so I ask all these questions.

I suppose the color and shadow of a fractal can convey the emotion of the creator.Β
I am amazed by the intricacy of your Moc'S Β , you give the expression and life and they move and are fully functional too tis a great art and I wouldn't know where to begin other than making stockΒ BionicleΒ with the instructions in font of me and hope I make it right lol

Thanks Greg.
Well that is a place to start. Then you start with trying your own arrangements of the parts. learn the "mechanics" of the different elements and how they go together, then it's like building a relationship. The more you know, the better it is. It doesn't happen over night and like becoming a good artist in any medium, it takes time to hone your skills and find your own style. But when you do, it's so rewarding. I wish we could have met when were both younger, you'd make an amazing MOCer Greg. You have so much inspiration and potential. You love fantasy, and you know good color schemes when you see them, so I think you'd create some amazing fantasy style MOCs.
I keep putting off getting you a Bionicle. I think for Christmas I'll have to send something your way.

Welcome.
Yes and I like the no glue factor, making a model like I used to I moved up from snap together to full on. The biggest one I made was a working 4 cylinder engine that took batteries and the most complex was a P38 replica pistol with working trigger ejection and clip action. Β That sounds cool I would love to make a Manticore they are my most favorite non average fantasy creatures and a pain in the ass to beat in dark soulsΒ www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Ve3hVβ¦
I'll be living in self storage by then the way its going right now. Β

Plague-Doc-Matteo In reply to Wretched--Stare [2015-10-24 07:36:10 +0000 UTC]
Exactly, and then there's the fact that if you fuck up, you can fix it by pulling a part off. Or you can do what you've seen me do over the years with steadily improving as you get more, better, or newer parts that achieve what you want better.
A manticore would be pretty damned cool. I was thinking of building a Chimara at some point. I already have a Minotaur and a Satyr.
Dude that sucks. I'm sorry to hear that. You can't find a place to move to? Is public housing any kind of an option?

This guy is certainly PO'd Although some of the pictures are blurry I can tell that the build is very articulated for it's size, which is a big challenge I find. I also like that the story behind him cuts to something very real, gives the MOC another dimension. I can definitely involve emotion into my MOCs occasionally. Lord Furno was built with my power hunger in mind, Nightbeat with justice, Nameless with serenity, etc. I'm not sure that I've built one as multifaceted as Grum-Beep here though

Plague-Doc-Matteo In reply to welcometothedarksyde [2015-10-30 10:04:57 +0000 UTC]
Thanks Liam. I can definitely see how those MOCs represent a part of you, especially Nightbeat. I think he personifies you best.
Matteo represents my desire for knowledge, Then there's some other common themes within my MOCs, At a glance of my gallery I would say "dominance" or power hunger (Remaku, Gweeb, Dr. A), and then perseverance(Melanthios, Kumignasi, 5pr1nt3r)
