Description
About The MOCPeletuma Battledwarf turned out to be a spur of the moment MOC for me. The inspiration to build him came from seeing one of 0nuku 's MOCsΒ Β and wanted to try building my own little dude. Though mine turned out somewhat...beefier.
Another big inspiration here is I've been playing Magic: The Gathering a lot with friends and co-workers lately, so I wanted to build something more mythical looking. I'd say he's a cross between something from Magic and LOTR as those were the two fantasy elements I had in mind.
"Paleltuma" means "Frostbite" in Finnish. Thanks to my buddy Monarth for telling me that.
Paleltuma's main weapon is his hammer/axe. I couldn't decide which one to give him so I figured out a way where he had both. Its a hammer and an axe.
Additional photos can be viewed at his Flickr Gallery

Hey. HEEEEEEEEEEEY. So at the end I didn't comment this? SERIOUSLY?
Okey, let's get into it. Already told you that I would suggest to put the eyes of this dwarf between the mask and the Technic parts, for example studs on the upper part of the pieces where you put the moustache, for a more aggressive look. So let's take that out of the way. Let's go for the critique! Sorta. Since it's short. And I don't critique too much. ^^"
The issue of the proportions have been already exposed and defended. I would add anything more, but a suggestion of make the torso a bit longer and, maybe, add some textiles (like blue minifig capes or nets). Love the additions of those spike bits to the Protector feet, both for the toes and the chains; and also the chest which looks nice. The head is however the best part of the MOC, that moustache made of chains is epic. And really like the sides of the helmet too <3 As for the weapons, my favourite one has to be the buzzsaw.
Great work, dear!

I agree that it does closely resemble the character design of predator, however other than that it does look rather nice.

Thanks. Its mostly the protector mask. I think at some point I'll actually try and build a predator using those masks and giving him hair and everything it was very effective towards that end, just not this one.

i like it a lot, would go with a different mask, the helmet and beard look a bit "off" when used with this one.

I agree, I tried different things and this is just what fit, so I kept it. But you're right, it looks off. If I come back to it I'll definitely revisit the mask and head all together.
Thanks.

You should have seen him when I tried going with chain hair to. Totally a predator design, so I scrapped that and went with the helmet instead. Totally need to try that idea though.

Nope, Paleltuma, its Finnish for Frostbite.

Thanks Greg. Doesn't always have to be big. IΒ always enjoy working on small projects, they provide such a nice little challenge getting something to work with limited space for parts.

Wretched--Stare In reply to Plague-Doc-Matteo [2015-05-12 15:25:32 +0000 UTC]
Yes, its probably just as challenging Β working with fewer parts to create something so cool.

Plague-Doc-Matteo In reply to Wretched--Stare [2015-05-12 23:52:18 +0000 UTC]
It can be. It'd be like you having to work with less pixels or less tools in your programs. You might be able to do it, but it'd be harder to make it look good.

Yes so true, it would be like me trying to work with less filters and plugins. like I've been doing lately. the last few updates to PDN have mucked up my filters pretty bad but I am dealing with it..Β
π: 0 β©: 1
Plague-Doc-Matteo In reply to Wretched--Stare [2015-05-15 13:34:54 +0000 UTC]
Oh that sucks. You're still using PDN? That's cool. I still use it to do my edits. Though I've been wondering if I should just upgrade to a version of Photoshop and invest in a cheap drawing tablet. Thoughts?

Wretched--Stare In reply to Plague-Doc-Matteo [2015-05-15 19:49:00 +0000 UTC]
I've seen some low priced ones but don't know how they last.
I have PS and hardly use it. you have to pay for filters and everything not a fan.
π: 0 β©: 1
Plague-Doc-Matteo In reply to Wretched--Stare [2015-05-19 23:51:51 +0000 UTC]
Oh that's bullshit. Even after you pay an assload of money for the program you gotta pay more for filters and brushes? Waaaaat?!
π: 0 β©: 1
Wretched--Stare In reply to Plague-Doc-Matteo [2015-05-20 05:09:52 +0000 UTC]
$$$ ITS AL ABOUT THE MONEY Β I say fuck them free filters and brushes for all, you should only have to pay one time for something. Β Steam learned that the hard way a few weeks ago, when they went to paid mods for games and the people spoke and said F u and they backed off. We need more of that stuff.
π: 0 β©: 1
Plague-Doc-Matteo In reply to Wretched--Stare [2015-05-21 10:16:11 +0000 UTC]
Yeah we really do. I'm surprised Steam would try that. They should have known that would have blown up in their face. I guess Adobe can do that because what else are people gonna use? I know there's other programs, but Photoshop is industry standard really. They're the top dog. But can't people make filters for it and give those out for free?
π: 0 β©: 1
Wretched--Stare In reply to Plague-Doc-Matteo [2015-05-21 13:14:26 +0000 UTC]
There are a few free ones out there not made by PS but limited and they don't work on PS elements just the expensive full version.Β

Plague-Doc-Matteo In reply to Wretched--Stare [2015-05-28 12:32:02 +0000 UTC]
Oh I see. That blows. Well its not like I have much use for that shit anyways.
Once you buy them do you get to keep them? What if photoshop updates?
π: 0 β©: 1
Wretched--Stare In reply to Plague-Doc-Matteo [2015-05-28 16:40:29 +0000 UTC]
I know they should work for every version. Β
If its not updated then it might not work right like some of the filter I use in PDN.

I agree, they're not really dwarves, more like hobbits or halflings. Thanks Liam. I do quite like how beefy he is even for a little MOC. He's almost square, its funny.
