Even Death himself can't resist their adorableness >u<For anyone who hasn't read any of the Discworld series, this is Death. He has a thing for cats. This image was inspired after I had finished reading Mort, and I kept thinking back to the bag of drowned kittens he pulled from a fountain as he was passing by, and how saddened he had seemed(not that a bag of dead kittens isn't horrifying in itself, but considering his job is to go about reaping souls, it seemed rather striking that it had bothered him).
This particular portrail of Death belongs to Terry Pratchett <3

Aw, thanks AJ =3 I've been trying to add highlights to my shading to make it "pop" more. Lately I've been stuck in this shading ruff, afraid that if I make my lighter shading too light it'll look funny, even though it actually looks better in the end @_@ Still, I can't seem to rid myself of that nagging feeling, even though ultimately my brighter hilighting looks a lot better! o.o

I almost didn't put him there! XD I was originally just doing one kitten, then decided to put two, then debated till the last second as to whether or not I wanted to put one in Death's sleeve. I almost put another on his shoulder, but it kept not fitting >.<

Well they described his cloak as "the color of night", and I always envission night as a deep blue or purple. Plus, purple looks awesome on him

I had a friend freak out because I did purple instead of blue, but I thought purple made a better contrast against his blue eyes, you know?
And yes, it looks AWESOME!

Yes v.v I was originally doing blue as well, like that deep midnight blue? But for some reason it just didn't look as nice! o.o Make the whole image look like it was in one shade. Plus purple is "warmer" feeling in a way I think, like it looks softer and has a certain kindness to it, which I think expresses Death quite well despite what he represents >u<

Death of the Discworld has always been warmer and kinder than his job and representation would imply.
Also, you're right, purple is a warmer color than blue, and that's because it has red in it! That makes it feel softer and gentler...
Now I have all these color theory ideas about my own painting.
