Now this is a piece with a description that invites curiosity. The dark side is completely dark, no sign of illumination: That opens for a lot of speculation about its inhabitants.
Perhaps they are on a paleolithic level and do not possess firecraft, or shy fire for cultural reasons - or perhaps they are naturally nocturnal. Perhaps they have a sensory apparatus that does not require visible light, or are aquatic or amphibian, thus having no means to harness fire nor electricity. Or - since "life" does not automatically imply civilization - perhaps they are simply animals, intelligent or not, but in either case not tool using.

So much that can be implied from just the darkness beyond the terminator of a sphere in space. Getting curious to learn the answer.
