Description In a distant part of the universe, a civilization embarks on an epic journey to parts unknown.  Their ship, a stellar engine, emerges from behind the nebula that marked the boundaries of their home space, and engages its full power for the first time.  They may look huge and violent, but those shockwaves were years apart and many lightyears distant.  They may be going at incredible speeds, but on a cosmic scale their journey is only just begun.

This is my second entry for the Chromatic Contest over at Space-Revived :
Space Art Contest: Chromatic!Space-Revived Presents... THE CHROMATIC CONTEST
At long last, the new Chromatic Contest arrives, open to all members of Space-Revived!
The theme is completely open to your imagination, with a twist: you must use only ONE OR TWO COLOURS in your space artwork. Your space art may represent anything you can imagine, but the most important thing is to champion your choice of colour.

Here critiquing your lovely work of art as a part of fav.me/dbv59yj

Was the masterpiece made in gimp? If so, I commend you on your ability to create soft and fluffy clouds!! I really love the two toned color scheme. It's simple and yet complex.
I think the stars are very pretty as well. However, I'd rather see the stars spread out more instead of in a cluster as the orange stars in the middle are. All the small stars peeping through the cloud add a very nice touch, especially the really shiny ones. The space ship zooming through is a good idea but I don't think it fits...Maybe the jet behind it is the problem? Overall, this is spectacular

Thank you for the comment!  Yes, this was created in GIMP, though I can't claim credit for the clouds -- I colored, edited and tweaked a stock photo for the basic form of the nebulae.  I agree about the stars, too; a friend suggested that I try varying the saturation to convey depth, but I probably also needed to add a lot more.  If time had permitted, I would have developed this piece some more.  When I refine this in the future, I'll see what I can do about that ship.

Cosmic distances...unimaginable and problematic. Everything is so far away that even speed of light seems slow...

The scale of something like this is really mind-boggling.  Thanks for the comment
