Description EDIT: This is an old version of the Mushroom Frontier map. The new one with minor edits and better drawing skills can be found here .

This is my new version of the world map for Paper Mario: Double Darkness. Not only have some worlds been rearranged and levels been added, it's also a lot better drawn. Of course, it being better drawn is why it took two weeks to finish, not including the description, but I think it was worth it. The Mushroom Frontier is a distant colony of the Mushroom Kingdom, and as the former site of the mystical Nox empire, the residents are all at least a little familiar with random magical things happening for no reason.
Anyway, here's a not-very-quick summary of each world. You can go ahead and not read it if you want, but that would make me very sad.

Mt. Mushroom (Hub Area): The strange, striped mountain at the center of the map. It contains a small town, but most of the people living there are researchers and scientists, for one of two reasons. The main feature of the mountain is the Mt. Mushroom Observatory, a world-famous facility of astronomy with all the latest equipment any stargazer could hope for, including the Celestial Cannon, a powerful machine capable of blasting stars back into the sky (in case that ever becomes necessary). On the other hand, buried inside the mountain are the ruins of the Shadow Spire, a really scary, darkness-channeling tower that was part of the capital city of the Nox. Preservation of the Shadow Spire is an important objective for archaeologists in the Mushroom Frontier and nearby areas, so admittance to the ruins is strictly limited.
The building just a little bit down and to the right of the observatory is the Shy Guy Clubhouse, headquarters of Shylington's all-purpose nonprofit organization, the Guy Club; and the cave beside that is the Pit of 100 Trials.
    Prologue Title Card

Moo Moo Plains (World 1): The grassy, Midwestern-flavored section directly to the right of the observatory. The Nox grew their food here, and it was enchanted to be an especially good place to do so. Now, though, there's just one farm in the area, and it's not doing very well at the moment, due to some . . . strange weather patterns, to put it mildly. Farther to the right is Highrise Hill, the tallest point on the right half of the island. It's high enough that a determined climber can actually reach the clouds, and it's also home to a small community of Monty Moles (which aren't helping the farm either).
    Chapter 1 Title Card

Supersurf Shore (World 2): The shoreline at the bottom-center of the map. Frequently at the top of the Mushroom Frontier tourist's "to do" list, it has great ambiance, unforgettable views, and much better weather than the previous world. The latter is thanks to Flod Tower, a Nox-made weather control dome. Most of it has sunk into the ocean by now, but it's still something you won't forget seeing from the beach. The harbor town toward the left is Supersurf Port, which contains attractions such as the critically acclaimed Supersurf Shanty Bar and Grill, a restaurant that has great food and service, but occasionally gets some rather unruly customers.
    Chapter 2 Title Card

Sunblast Desert (World 3): The sandy area at the lower-left. It used to be the training grounds for the Nox's militia, and for this purpose they built the Sunblast Arena, a magnificent coliseum where soldiers honed their skills against magically summoned opponents. Unfortunately, the climate is formidable, and only a few determined explorers and archaeologists have ever reached the far end of the desert and seen the ruins. Despite, or perhaps because of, the unrelenting dryness, Sunshine the fire spirit lives alone in a small shack on the way to the arena.
    Chapter 3 Title Card

Combustion Caves (World 4): The mountainous section of the map above the desert. The area is rich in shadestone, a mineral created by the Nox that has magical properties. When the veins of shadestone were rediscovered, hordes of Bob-ombs hoping to stake their claim of the newfound mining operation moved in and founded Kablammer City. Despite the long walk through the mountains it takes to get there, the large underground town is another one of the Mushroom Frontier's more popular destinations, because of their state-of-the art sports stadium where Bob-omb athletes blow each other up in Fuseball matches.
    Chapter 4 Title Card

Whiteout Tundra (World 5): The snowy region to the upper-right. Although it snows almost perpetually here, it actually wasn't always so cold; the whole area was magically cooled down by the Nox, in order to preserve its unique fossils and bones (they clearly would have appreciated their own historical significance). It's home to the Duke of Brrr, the official ambassador of the Mushroom Frontier, who lives in Brrr Palace with his daughter, Crystal, and lots and lots of Ninji and Brrr subjects. All the way on the right is Cryo Cliff, which is where the previously mentioned fossils and bones are. The magic involved there has had some unexpected side effects, though, so no one goes out there anymore.
    Chapter 5 Title Card

Koop Labs (World 6): The small building directly north of the observatory. Bowser's research and development division operates from here, tirelessly working toward making new scientific breakthroughs that can be used for evil. The boss of the department, Dr. Kook, has a great understanding of engineering, programming, et cetera, but he's not very skilled at management, and as a result most of the employees, including the AI programs, are very dissatisfied. The factories of the Nox once stood here, where they produced many brilliant inventions, including a prototype space station, which was eventually found, stolen, repaired, and launched by Dr. Kook.
    Chapter 6 Title Card

Arcana Jungle (World 7): The rainforest area to the lower-right. During the era of the Nox, the trees here were enchanted to store extra dark energy, which causes the area to have the most powerful wild magic on the island. The clearing up near World 1 contains Arcana Village, an isolated community of Dayzees and Shadow Sirens (because it seems that every Paper Mario fangame is legally required to have Shadow Sirens) that all know a lot about the ways of sorcery. The black and red building on the peninsula is the Obsidian Temple, a red-hot dungeon also built by the Nox.
    Chapter 7 Title Card

Bowser Castle (World 8): The large fortress to the left of Koop Labs. This one hardly needs an introduction, but for those of you who have never played a Mario game before and were actually trying to get to another deviation but got the thumb code wrong: While Bowser is in the Mushroom Frontier, this acts as his base of operations. It comes complete with 5 floors, a balcony on the roof, two towers, lots of spikes, a giant Bowser head, a bridge over a lava pit for Bowser to fall off of (not really), and a secret dungeon in the basement.
    Chapter 8 Title Card

Nox Empire (World 9): The final world of the game takes place 5,000 years in the past, so it actually gets its own world map, which is here.  After reassembling the portal in the present-day Shadow Spire, Mario and company travel to Corona Town, the capital city of the Nox which stood in the same area as the Mt. Mushroom Observatory, for the last stage of their adventure. Despite being home to some of the weirdest magic ever, Corona Town contains all the amenities of any other town in the game, plus a few Tribe of Ancients characters offering new services that are unavailable anywhere in the present. At the center of the city is the Shadow Spire, which harvests the ambient dark energy that serves as a power source for the whole empire. The rest of the Nox Empire consists of 8 bonus levels, each based on one of the previous worlds, that only become available after completing the game.

Ah, the reason you haven't played it might be that it isn't real (although it IS a fake installation of a real video game series). Still, thanks!

No worries, I think the problem might be my imagination.

Oh my stars, it looks really bright and colorful. The different locations, as well as the different plots you are describing, sound really promising : I am looking forward to see how it will progress. I don't why but the story surrounding Sunblast Desert reminds me of "Morituri te salutamus", the pisode of Adventure Time where Finn and Jake had to fight against a bunch of gladiator ghosts in some sort of wicked coliseum. I am pretty curious to see how the atmosphere of said chapter will come. Combustion Caves and Whiteout Fields sound really interesting as well (by the way, the building that I assume is the Duke of Brrr's castle is a very nice exemple of what I call beautiful architecture). I guess it is pretty safe to assume that the wild magic surge will make the fossils come back to live... which sounds amazing ! All I want is to see some sort of prehistoric version of Yoshi, some sort of wild-looking dinosaur. It may be interesting to have one as a partner. Hmmm, a caveman-like partner... I need to study the question... Arcana Jungle also looks like a promising area, the name itself is a pledge of mysteries and adventures. I cannot wait to know what are the dark and terrible secret hidden in the depths of the "Obsidian Temple" (it's probably not so dark and terrible but it sounded so much better this way).
