You know, the corn that does go to making biofuel is actually not fit to eat to begin with. Watch 'King Corn', and it will be clear why that is true.

would you prefer we combust oil? granted... any kind of combustion releases harmful waste gases, but it is less harmful than fossil fuels. it's a step in the right direction, and while it may lead to deforestation, it can also lead to other benefits; third-world countries, or anywhere, can make a profit growing different crops to use as biodiesel. they can use that money to move forward. your picture shows starving children... if you're proposing that the crops being used for biodiesel are resulting in loss of food, well i suppose that's true but other factors must be taken into account; use of crops for biofuels is not directly proportional to starvation. there's a bigger picture; try to see it.

Crops being used for combustion still are harmful to the enviornement. Also, the use of crops for combustion means using food and wast it for combustion, and not to feed people. The bigger picture with this "solution"? 1. More starvation to non developed coutries 2. Release of harmful gases 3. Deforestation of some zones of the planet.
There are other resources that still can be used.

I understood your point. Just donΒ΄t agree with you when you say crops are a "step in the right direction". Agree with you that is urgent to find alternatives to oil, but not by the usage of food.
