ADwD spoilers!Am I the only one who greatly enjoyed learning about Varys and Illyrio's shared past in Pentos? Damn, I love Varys. Anyway here are those old crafty mofos in the good old days.

Yes, it was really awesome to hear about Varys past! I think he's a fascinating character, and hope to see more of him (I'm about 2/3 through the fifth book).

Oooh, that's too bad! I actually expected him to be no Lannister loyalist given how he probably enabled Tywin's murder, so while I didn't see that coming (I mean, being an epilogue POV I knew Kevan was toast - I just didn't anticipate it would have been the spider to take him out), his DwD actions made sense to me.

I wondered too, but then I came to the conclusion that with only two (theoretical) books to go and virtually no previous information on either Varys or Illyrio, I don't think GRRM would be starting to set up a false track now (though I might be wrong of course). And Varys' actual agenda is still obscure...

I do not doubt his agenda... but I sometimes think he knows how to use magic... something much more interesting than just having a troop of children everywhere.
