Description
This portrait was a double challenge - one was giving Bolton appropriately common looks according to Martin's description, the other was making it look like a 15th century painting in the tradition of Bellini and Antonello da Messina. I am afraid I failed at both - just another typical Pojything!Pencil sketch, Painter X and Photoshop CS2. Texture by mayang.com

This is what I pictured in my head as I read the book. I didn't see a guy that looked like a serial killer or Dracula. I pictured someone plain looking and quiet. He's supposed to be the kind of guy you would never really notice....unless you looked into his eyes.

^Well said. He's the kind of character that you wouldn't remember at all until you legitimately noticed him, and then the eerie aura about him would be everywhere.....Fascinating character.

I really admire the depth of this piece. Far from being cartoonist or blatant in its portrayal of evil, it shows Roose how I perceived him. Quiet, reposed, intelligent, almost bland, and very dangerous. I felt all of this through your work, excellent job!

Quite similar to the visage I've got from the books. I really like the work you did with his eyes. It's really the only part of him that is supposed to speak any volumes IMO, and I believe you've captured them quite well!
And...unlike a lot of people I too imagine he'd keep short hair. He isn't Ramsay and that seems to suit him better.

Good picture. But I think it looks different. He did not have such a rude face. My opinion - he looks like Brad Dourif. [link] .Cold, pale, with light eyes.
PS what is the right spelling "Roose" like a "goose", or the other ?

Heh, my mental image of Roose Bolton has changed countless times over the years, this is just one of many 
I pronounce Roose like "goose", but then I am not a native English speaker so I probably tend to read many names differently.

Well, even if it didn't come out like you were hoping, it's still Roose Bolton. Thumbs up.
And actually, it's not as bad as you think. The shirt and the stylized landscape really give an italian, art history kind of air to the portrait, and the texture the appearance of cracking tempera.

Even if you didn't quite get exactly what you wer aiming for, I think it's a facsinating piece nonetheless! You really managed to convey a wordliness about him, a man with experience. His facial features are really brilliant, you've conveyed age without making him look old. The wrinkles are just right. I really love the eyes and the nose.

He is a character from the series A Song of Ice and Fire... he is supposed to be a really evil overlord, but with a very common apperance and quiet behavior - no "MWAHAHAHAH!!!"s from him, in a nutshell
