...aka Indio and his gang from Sergio Leone's For a few dollars more.

Okay, I'm posting this thing XD I started painting it some time ago as a side project while working, which is a bit uncharacteristic for me since I tend to focus on a project, finish it and post it straight away. This one I've been sketching the thumbnails one day, made the rough lineart the day after, and so on... All the while taking screencaps and notes about the process since people ask me about tutorials from time to time. Then I dropped it for a while and got back the other day - at that point I was like, "screw taking caps and all, I have to finish this", so I did it. Actually I got to the breaking point where I said "I'm done with this whether it's finished or not", and probably Indio's leg is too long (it sort of worked with the flat background but not so much with the added perspective I guess...), but I'd rather save the experience for next time rather than tweak this pic any further XD

From left to right: Groggy (Luigi Pistilli), Nino (Mario Brega), Indio (Gian Maria VolontΓ© *swoons*), Wild the Hunchback (Klaus Kinski). It was only when I was happily working on the final sketch that it occurred to me - all these actors died around the early 90's (Sergio Leone died in 1989). Pistilli had the saddest story: he committed suicide, apparently due to the bad reviews his latest theatre work was getting, and to the failure of his relationship with the singer Milva. I also read that he had a son who died not long before, and he never got to cope with the fact. :C

Okay, enough with the sadface. Because this movie rocks my socks. It's emotionally gripping in a way you wouldn't expect. And I just love the final duel [link] (obviously spoilerific if you haven't seen it).

"When the chimes end, pick your gun. Try and shoot me, Colonel. Just try."
Brilliant. This is my best friend's favorite Western, and even film!
It's very underrated, and it's Leone's darkest and most psychologically engaging film.
Indio was a tortured soul and Mortimer was haunted. Magnificent performances and the music was just breathtaking.
Beautiful art.
10/10

I loved this movie, my favourite of the dollars trilogy. I found Gian Maria Volonte amazing in this film, his presence and character were so drawing... A great piece, I'm there's not more of Gian Maria Volonte on DA! Kudos!

Thank you! I'm a big VolontΓ© fan, I think he was one of the finest actors we had in Italy... so much charisma. And yeah, FafDm is my favourite in the trilogy as well - in my opinion it's the one with the biggest emotional impact. Even if I know full well how it's going to end, the final duel between Indio and the Colonel always gets me.

Absolutely, I just loved the chimes of the pocket watch- I want that watch! It's a very powerful western, I was so amazed that The Good the Bad and the Ugly just didn;t hold the same emotional impact for me. Ah well.
Your welcome, and kudos!

Ahhh... bellissimo film di Leone. Ho sempre sognato che qualcuno creasse delle fanart in onore dei suoi western

Bellissimo. I visi sono IDENTICI a quelli degli attori!

Not only that, but it's good fanart to boot. You've captured the characterization in all of their faces superbly my dear. Oh gosh, yes you did. <3

I love For A Few Dollars More. Probably my favorite of the trilogy; Indio's musical pocket watch is one of Morricone's greatest musical motifs. VolontΓ© was wonderul as Indio; he brought such a wild heat to that role, without taking it over the top. You captured that intensity very nicely.

Esatto.

Gian Maria VolontΓ© is very impressive in this movie !!

I never know if I prefer one or an other movie by Leone (his westerns are all good). But "For a few dollars more" has sometimes my preference (I like the story around Indio and Lee Van Cleef's character).

Thanks for the fav

This is the "Dollar" I always tended to overlook because it doesn't get to be showed on tv as much as the other two, but after rewatching it recently it skyrocketed on top of the list. I love that it's a revenge story but you don't know it until the end And even though objectively it's Lee Van Cleef's film, there's no such thing as too much VolontΓ© I'm a BIG fan of his.

VolontΓ© is incredible and haunting : his Indio is one of the best "bad guys" of the cinema's History (I think the same of Lee Van Cleef in) The Good, the Bad and the Ugly and Henri Fonda in Once upon a time in the West... well, Leone's bad guys are magnificent ! ^^+). The church's scene "gets me in the guts" ! ^^
