Description
T H E R M O P Y L A EFinished it. I experimented with a pretty heavy DOF here... hope you enjoy that aspect of it. In addition, it felt like it was missing some serious background in the rough cut, so I added the star and a pretty subtle starfield, as well as the new smaller planet. I initially tried a blurry planet (to enhance the DOF), but it took away more than it brought to the image.
So anyways, There's a special little way to do that nifty explosion, but I'll NEVER TELL!!!!
AAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAAHH
butsrsly.
Enjoy it!

Nice, this is good! It just really needs full view to be appreciated, the thumbnail almost made me not click. Glad I did

Oh come on, it's just a sparkler photo. Was that a spoiler?
Quick, hide comment!
I actually quite like this one though, it has a very enveloping otherworldly atmosphere to it - its almost overbearing light here works synergistically with the scale of the scene to create a sense of presence in the scene. This is contra to some past pieces where the lighting was distractive rather than immersive. A key point to the improvement here is the soft and fuzzy gradient given to the light, the sun is not blaring white but a sort of bright alienesque, luminous hue - definitely an improvement. The depth of field work is also a certain contributor to this effect for which the piece would otherwise feel a bit flat.
I wouldn't really change anything with this, though if anything I'd consider working on the explosive shockwave. Only in a subtle manner however - it'd be a shame to lose the balance of the immersive effect the scene currently has. Regardless of this minor suggestion, very nice indeed.

In fact, no
Definitely not a sparkler. I rendered the explosion in Adobe After Effects with a particle generator, then took it into Photoshop and worked with the depth of field. Turned out alright, don't you think?
And thank you for the very nice comment. I do enjoy these.

It looks horrible, omg... Why on Earth would you apply that nerve synapse thing to space art? Aside from the fact that you've beaten it to death recently... Any kind of explosion would have looked far better.

This is the first work of yours that I've "bashed" O.o
And besides, I critique pretty much everything to ridiculously high standards. You've known me for like eight years now, I know you're aware of those standards.

Yes, I'm aware of your standards. I don't think it requires you put down what I do. I understand critique, I can take it. Your comment was uncalled for.

Well, personally I love the DoF, but I can certainly see why you might not be completely satisfied with it. All in all, a beautiful work.
