Description For those of you who have been reading WaW, you know that I love Cybertronian techno-jargon...especially with respect to their anatomy.  I try my best to define strange terminology as it is used, but sometimes I intentionally leave out explanations to really make their bodies/culture/science seem distinct from our own.

I'm commissioning a lot of fanart for WaW because a)I want to support fellow artists and b) my job leaves me with very little free time for personal art projects.  One of the pieces I've commissioned (by the lovely and talented ) will feature the inside of Ratchet's chest, and I wanted to provide her with a bit of a guide to maker her job easier (especially since we've never been given a canon image of anyone's inner workings)

Optimus doesn't count because the matrix of leadership was blocking all of the details...

Ne-who, explanations...

The image in the upper left is a simple cut-away diagram, showing all of the plates in their normal alignment with the underlying anatomy visible.

The image bottom-center shows the interior of the chest cavity when the plates are opened naturally.  All the major components are labeled.  Obviously words like "shoulder-cap" and "medial-plate" are English translations of Cybertronian terminology.  Other words like "t'vre" are pronounced phonetically but have no viable English translations.  To make Ratchet's internals seem a bit older, I referenced a lot of old car engines where all the pipes and lines and whatnot are exposed and there's a lot of excess space to make it easier for objects to be changed out when they fail.  Newer models would be much more compact.

His spark chamber is completely enclosed to protect the spark within (otherwise it would "evaporate" or dissipate if exposed to the atmosphere).  There's a prominent welding scar that runs diagonally across the entire organ.  It restricts motion of the spark-casing, and as such his body is unable to pump energon as well as it used to.

And finally...the bust.  I like it, but I can't shake how much Ratchet looks like Iron Man when you take off his helm.

I don't have much else to say...I've been working on this all day.

Enjoy

Transformers belongs to Hasbro...I just draw fanarts.

Rated T for generic humor, romance stuff---no porn (sorry ), wartime violence, blood, Cybertronian cursing, and an eventual bar fight...

Saturday…
Ratchet used to hate Saturdays.
Humans, for reasons that the seasoned medic could not fathom, lumped seven of their solar cycles into a unit of time called a "week," the first five cycles of which were mostly devoted to education, work or a combination of the two.  The last two cycles of the week, colloquially known as Saturday and Sunday, seemed to function as a sort exaggerated holiday, whereby the humans would, on the whole, abstain from work or school and recreate in various ways.
Jack, Miko, and Rafael--the human children who had, inadvertently, stumbled into the middle of their millennia-old, civil war with the Decepticons--were no different from other humans, except that their recreational activities spanned the gauntlet from

We're all a bit crazy...sometimes... *eye twitch*

It was a lot of work, took me almost two full days to draw it out and ink it.

But, methinks it was worth the effort.

I dunno if it's dedication...or obsession at this point.     I'm a rabid Ratchet fangirl, after all.

My fanfiction and most of the art that I submit reference Transformers Prime.  If you want to know the setting for the fic--and why I'm soooooooo obsessed with Ratchet--I'd start there.

Transformers Animated is amazing as well, perhaps better than Prime because the writers were allowed more artistic freedom.

Rescue Bots is great as well.

And don't forget G1 and the Beast-era shows.

This is very nice!! I love how you used him, it's fun seeing an older model with more detail to show.

My goodness, he does look like Iron Man.

Thank you!   I appreciate it.

In the future I might take a younger character, like Arcee, Io or Crossarm, and draw out their internals as a means of comparison.

He does.  And as I mentioned in my notes, I don't know whether to find that awesome or disturbing.

You're very welcome. It really is awesome.

Io or Arcee would be very cool!

I personally think it's fabulous~ ;u; Both nice-looking metal men.

Wow... This is really cool. Really detailed. I know Owl is going to be really pleased with this.

I wanted to ask something about the part here showing his head. Did you do it this way just to show some detail or do you go with the idea that they are actually wearing helmets compared to it being part of their head?

Thanks!  Im'ma try to get to her amazing note today, but I'm helping a friend clean up his backyard.  It might take all day.

Just to show the detail.  I've read fanfictions where the characters can remove their armor as easily as a human removes a t-shirt, and it irks me.  I envision their armor as a semi-permanent layer of "skin" so to speak.  It can come off, but with difficulty.  One of the chapters in my fanfic, 13, goes into tremendous detail about the complexities of removing armor.  It's basically a surgical operation, with pain medication needed to prevent discomfort.

And drawing from Transformers Animated, beneath the armor is a layer of softer metal, their protoform.  I envision the protoform as being what crawls from the Well of AllSparks, and the armor added afterwards, once they're placed into a caste (or later, when they decide what they'd like to be).

Ahh I was wondering about that. Glad you feel that way about it. I personally think that thinking of them as helmets and (removable) armor is just weird. I like how you stated it and mentioned it like a skin and such. I feel in similar ways. Nice to know you feel similarly about it too.

Eh, I'm a details person myself. Spend so much time on those I forget the bigger picture and it holds me back. Not good for someone who loves to write and gets hung up on little things.
