Description For those of you who have been reading WaW, you know that I love Cybertronian techno-jargon...especially with respect to their anatomy.  I try my best to define strange terminology as it is used, but sometimes I intentionally leave out explanations to really make their bodies/culture/science seem distinct from our own.

I'm commissioning a lot of fanart for WaW because a)I want to support fellow artists and b) my job leaves me with very little free time for personal art projects.  One of the pieces I've commissioned (by the lovely and talented ) will feature the inside of Ratchet's chest, and I wanted to provide her with a bit of a guide to maker her job easier (especially since we've never been given a canon image of anyone's inner workings)

Optimus doesn't count because the matrix of leadership was blocking all of the details...

Ne-who, explanations...

The image in the upper left is a simple cut-away diagram, showing all of the plates in their normal alignment with the underlying anatomy visible.

The image bottom-center shows the interior of the chest cavity when the plates are opened naturally.  All the major components are labeled.  Obviously words like "shoulder-cap" and "medial-plate" are English translations of Cybertronian terminology.  Other words like "t'vre" are pronounced phonetically but have no viable English translations.  To make Ratchet's internals seem a bit older, I referenced a lot of old car engines where all the pipes and lines and whatnot are exposed and there's a lot of excess space to make it easier for objects to be changed out when they fail.  Newer models would be much more compact.

His spark chamber is completely enclosed to protect the spark within (otherwise it would "evaporate" or dissipate if exposed to the atmosphere).  There's a prominent welding scar that runs diagonally across the entire organ.  It restricts motion of the spark-casing, and as such his body is unable to pump energon as well as it used to.

And finally...the bust.  I like it, but I can't shake how much Ratchet looks like Iron Man when you take off his helm.

I don't have much else to say...I've been working on this all day.

Enjoy

Transformers belongs to Hasbro...I just draw fanarts.

Rated T for generic humor, romance stuff---no porn (sorry ), wartime violence, blood, Cybertronian cursing, and an eventual bar fight...

Saturday…
Ratchet used to hate Saturdays.
Humans, for reasons that the seasoned medic could not fathom, lumped seven of their solar cycles into a unit of time called a "week," the first five cycles of which were mostly devoted to education, work or a combination of the two.  The last two cycles of the week, colloquially known as Saturday and Sunday, seemed to function as a sort exaggerated holiday, whereby the humans would, on the whole, abstain from work or school and recreate in various ways.
Jack, Miko, and Rafael--the human children who had, inadvertently, stumbled into the middle of their millennia-old, civil war with the Decepticons--were no different from other humans, except that their recreational activities spanned the gauntlet from

Hi, I found this actually on the google search when I wanted to find the insides of Cybertronians for my fanfic. I've been using it as a reference. Not in it's entirety, I didn't use everything and I made up some terms myself, but this helped tremendously, but I did not realize until I came back to read your description better how much work you put into this. Originally I thought most of the terms you got from other Transformers places and then just made what they looked like and how they fit together visually, but but this is the best Cybertronian anatomy I have ever found. I hope it's okay that I used this for my fanfic. I'll try to replace the terms I've used with others if you don't want me to use this and I'll credit you if you don't mind that I have.

Hey hey!

I'm super stoked that this has helped with your writing.  By all means keep using it as is or feel free to make up your own terminology.  In hindsight, I should have come up with Cybertronian words to describe their anatomical components just in case anyone wanted to use it for ref.  Crediting is much appreciated as it makes me and my art more visible to the Transformers fanbase.  If you ever have any additional questions about how their anatomy works in my headverse, let me know.

Cheers!

Oh, thank you so much I gave you credit now.fanfic

I have a hard time thinking in machine terms as I'm not mechanically inclined. I loved this picture cuz it did not try to make them just "metal humans" on the inside and I knew I didn't want to think about them like that.

Thanks again. If I have any questions I'll let you know, but for now I'm good

This is fraggin amazing! *picks jaw up from keyboard*  You must've given yourself such a headache over thinking this whole thing! I know I would've.

hmm...somehow, I always imagined their T-cogs to be...like where our liver is located just under our right rib cage, but on the left side instead. I dunno, just remembering back to when MECH operated on Bumblebee in the forest...and when Starscream was holding his left side after MECH grabbed him...

Still... This is AM-A-ZING!! The fact that you took the time and effort to put this out there. Kudos to you "rabid fangirl"

Thank you!

It could very well be that it is on their left side and I just made an error (the more I think about it, the more I think you're correct).  Or, I can chalk it up to Ratchet being an older 'Bot. X3

Wouldn't it be neat to imagine him saying something like: "Well, in my day, our T-cogs were on the right side!  And we liked it, no we loved it!"  X3

This is fantastic! I loved your story on FF.net and now I'm like ... you draw too??!! you have an amazing talent, thanks for sharing   Ratchet is my favorite TF Prime character, with Wheeljack a close second.

Thank you!

Drawing is my first love, but during the semester I work anywhere between 60 and 80 hours per week.  This leaves very little time for proper art (especially of the transformers variety), and so I've turned my focus to writing.

TFP Ratchet is probably my favorite Transformers character of all time.  If I'd have to pick a second, it would be Jetstorm from Beast Machines.

Thanks for your support.  I've got a few post WaW fics planned, the first of which should be done within a week or so (I'm trying to finish it before I go on vacation).

Sorta reading your War on Wings on fanfiction.net when I get bored not writing my own.
Ratchet is one of my 3 top fav bots in Prime...you can always count on that old bot. "hugs Ratchet and gives him a kiss"

Thanks for your support!   It means a lot.

This incarnation of Ratchet is one of my favs, though I'm quite fond of his MTMTE and Animated counterparts.  I oft wonder why such a remarkable character doesn't get more love...

yeah, you just want to hug and kiss the poor guy.
Writing my own fan fics, not centered about Ratchet, but has a large meaning for one of my OC's development through the story.

Thanks!  It's actually a part of the story.  I've already hinted that there's something amiss with Ratchet whenever he thinks about Io or loosing others that he's come to care about (chapter 8), but the last chapter will really explain the nature of his affliction as well as how it happened to him in the first place.

Thanks a bunch!  I appreciate it.

RPHedgie [2014-02-12 18:13:35 +0000 UTC]

Dang.... Dat's a lot more Cybertronian anatomy than I thought of! XD Didn't think it was that complex! Though they're giant alien robots and we are measly, tiny little humans. XD Plus we don't transform to ambulances, motorcycles and muscle cars. XD

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

praxcrown5 In reply to RPHedgie [2014-02-15 02:39:10 +0000 UTC]

As organic creatures, we're still incredibly complex creatures...possibly to the same degree as a Cybertronian because of all the unique organic stuff that our bodies do (i.e. excretion, sweating, etc...)

I harbor a deep fascination for human physiology...and Transformers.  This was a great way to combine the two.   I'm glad you like it!

RPHedgie In reply to praxcrown5 [2014-02-15 02:41:04 +0000 UTC]

I'll have to remember this someday. XD I'm sure Ratchet would be going nuts if he even TRIED studying and remembering all the human organs. XD
