I'm really, really tired....been working on this all day.The whole thing took ~20 hours, colored pencil work and background. Dak and Aldrea were rendered with Prismacolor Colored pencils; background was done with photoshop elements.
The scene depicts Dak and Aldrea before their desperate plunge into Father Deep (AKA the glowing, blue mist). They're on the run from the Yeerks and the only way to escape them is to go where no Hork-bajir has ever gone....and survived.

I used to draw them that way, but I find that I really like this manner of portrayal, even if it's not 100% accurate.

Huh, surprising how much this looks like mine, lol. Really nice blending there, you're getting better! And the background (and foreground) looks awesome too! If it was me I'd throw in a some blue reflecting off of dak and aldrea too, since the light is coming from the blue mist it seems...

Same here. I.C. is a great example of that. For a while, I started drawing it as a graphic novel. But I kept backtracking and rethinking the plot and characters that I had to start over from scratch...after completing 40 pages or so of art.

Holy poo. This is amazing. Seriously front cover worthy! I really like how you've combined all the different media into one picture, it works really really well. That tactic does indeed look wicked when done correctly. I'ma think of this next time I read the HB Chronicles. I like how Aldrea looks like she's backpedalling, too.
