These charts of yours are rather informative. They provide a good visual reference for stylized, anime/cartoon human anatomy I only wish more people would realize that this isn't meant to be completely true-to-life instead of repeatedly commenting with their "expertise"

Thank you. I think it is noticable that it isn't realism but stylisation. I mean I hope

My first thought was "The legs seem a little fatter than they should be", but they are not. They are merely fatter than I thought they should be and they look perfectly natural here. There is something at least unusual about legs here, in terms of drawings at least because again, they look really good and pleasent to the eye. I don't recall ever seeing something like that, which is weird because it looks better thanΒ overly simplified thin legs one usually sees.

Wow, I am glad you posted this, because I am often surprised at how little attention is giving to aging figures, especially male figures.

I understand how the body grows when you age, but when you get from old, the body doesn't magically shrink... maybe the muscular mass decreases, but the skeletal mass does not go down.
The only obvious thing on aging to an old man is the backbone, it gets curvier which means the height goes down a bit, not as much as you illustrated.

Perhaps not, if you're being realistic, but in anime, there is a drastic change in height when you go from young to old. A lot of artists draw like this, so it's not uncommon.

Well, it's cool, but the age shrinking is way too much, you don't shrink down to the size of an 8 year old again. If you do shrink in size 3 inches would be realistic. But it's a cool reference for stereotyping age types with how you usually see them. Size wise he would have shrunk 2 feet from the age of 30 to 99. The thigh bone has shrunk to half the size. Should it in any way be real he'd be suffering fromΒ osteoporosis, really severely. Say he's losing Β½ an inch each decade, which is set as the normal. Then from 30 to 100 he would have lost 4.5 inches, which is drastically less than the 2 feet (24 inches). To lose 2 feet by the age of 100 he should lose 3.4 inches each year. Men who lose over 2 inches of height in a year hasΒ 54% higher chance of fracturing a hip. Losing 3.4 each year the man probably shouldn't even be able to walk. But as I said, it's cool for age stereotypes, just don't consider it the same person.

What im about to say probably wony make much difference, but notice their knees are bent and they are hunched over. Try that yourself and see how much height you lose, then factor in the "height loss per decade".

coolbooksie In reply to Spex9000 [2015-06-09 09:12:35 +0000 UTC]
When I measured the length of their thigh bones this was half the size almost exactly of the one at the age of 30. The haunching over is considered part of the height loss. It's a part of the bone loss. But true, the bent knees does make a slight difference, but still far from getting it down to 2 inches a year.
