This is a Step - by - Step Tutorial of how I made my sprite for my pixelID: [link]A few people asked my how I did it~ So I decided to make this. I hope it helps people who are still in the process of making their Pixel IDs!! ...or just pixeling in general
Just a disclaimer, this is the way that I pixel, it's by far not the only way, or maybe even the easiest way~ but it's what works for me.

wow! this is really great. i'm a very cruddy artist so i never even considered trying to make one of these (everyone else of DA is making enough to compensate, lul), but i'm really glad you put this up. just cuz i was never gonna make one didn't mean that i wasn't really really interested in how they were made. i think you're amazing, good job!

That is not how you pixel.
That is not pixel art. As soon as you use ANY Photoshop tool on it, it becomes Digital art and is not pixel, Pixel art is ALWAYS working on the Per pixel level, not 600x and using brushes and effects.

Totally agree with you, no disrespect to prodigy but i wouldn't consider this pixel art, as soon as you start adding affects with photoshop tools and filters it takes it to a different category.
I see it this way, if your making a pixel in photoshop and you do something another pixel artist that uses ms paint can't such as outer glow or patterns>overlay chances are its not pixel anymore.

...so I'm not a PURIST pixel artist...boo hoo...
In my book, its still pixel art, since I didn't use any sort of anti-aliasing in the final product.

try to get a job as pixel artist and nobody is going to hire you cause this is not pixel art, i know what im talking about cause i work on this since long time ago doing videogames graphics, actually im creative director on a videogames company.
A simpler test, try to upload this piece on [link] a place full of pixel artists with years of experience and im sure they are going to delete or to tell you to revise it, cause is clearly not pixel art
here i se patterns, difusse brushes, and loooots of stuf that makes it non pixel art
and you know, pixel artists usually get very pissed when people do this kind of stuff without knowing whats pixel art really, becouse is a lot harder than this, and also you're teaching wrong to lots of people who is going to do the same, and just cause you and most of the ones who do this are deviant superstars or something nobody can say a word cause all the fanboys are going to come to defend...
no disrespect or anything im just trying to make you understand, as digital art is a very nice piece, but definitely not pixel art

Pardon for intruding. But not all pixel art is made the way you explicitly said. This is just one good way of doing it from the many. And this one at least is a bit understandable and I give PB a lot of kudos for her tutorial.

This is digital art, not pixel art.
It's like making a drawing in pencil, Painting it, and claiming to of colored it with pencils.

Often times pixel artists even trace pictures to cut corners which is how some learn. I don't see how making a sketch and drawing it out in pixels later and coloring very much like one would do with pixel art isn't considered pixel art.
While some do it by coloring and drawing it pixel by pixel this is just one way she is not necessarily saying that it is the ONLY way. I am not entirely saying that your way isn't wrong either as there are many ways to do this. And this one is her way.
And I believe she deserves and apology for such a brash response from you when she took her precious time to draw such a inspiring tutorial and share a technique with us for those who don't know how to begin. In which you could have said it perhaps a bit gentler.

mm this helps a lot for the future... i just drew the whole thing freehand with a one pixel brush for the most part... annoying but it worked with mine cuz i kept colors and details limited for the theme of it

If it hasn't already been noted: Paint works just as well for making your own pixel characters. Adobe just make's it slightly easier.
