I want to make your Toothless for my step son, but I want to double it's size. How do I do that?

There is no seam allowance in the pattern, so you just print at 200% (of course you need bigger paper for it)

What kind of fabric did you use for this wonderful plush? I have a nice wool blend lying aroundΒ I considered using.

It looks like it's poseable. What parts of it have wire, if any?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ProjectToothless In reply to mikel15858 [2013-01-23 18:56:22 +0000 UTC]

None of them. No wire at all.

It's filled with a kind of nylon fibre cotton... stuff.

Makes it rigid but, you can squeeze it to remove the filling temporarily, allowing you to change the pose.

ProjectToothless In reply to SlueCifer [2012-11-25 14:25:46 +0000 UTC]

about Β½m x 1.5m
That's 0.75m^2

not much, at all.

Cool, thank you. I cannot wait to get started on it. I may have to contact you again during the course of making it, my knowledge of textiles and sewing is pretty limited.

Mine too. This is my first real sewing craft.

A tip for sewing the head:
When it's done, tie a thread between the innermost parts of the eyes (closest to the nose)back and forth a couple of times (on the inside of the head). This will make them sink a bit into the head so it looks less round/inflated.

And good luck. If in doubt, do what you feel makes sense.

I really like his stance because he looks like he's about to take flight Nice job I might have to make me a Toothless plush after I finish my first one! My first plush I'm making has a cube for a body and stubby legs ~ Anyway, I really love him. He looks very cuddly ^o^

You're welcome. $100 pus materials and shipping for a made-from-scratch plush commission is quite common, I believe. Instead, do you have any relatives who are good with a sewing machine?

Wow, your Toothless-plushie is really amazing!
I'm thinking to make one using your pattern, but I have a few questions:

What fabric did you use for this one?
Do I have to use the same fabric to get a good result, or can I use for example some old jeans and still get a nice and cuddly Toothless?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ProjectToothless In reply to xBILL-LOVERx [2012-07-16 23:15:04 +0000 UTC]

I used black fleece - which is (i learned) a dust and hair magnet.
I believe denim/jeans fabric would work just as well - and probably allow for a cuddly dragon without having to clean it all the time.

Denim does come with the downside, that it's rougher and possibly harder to work with. Also, be aware that denim often has two different sides when you cut out your pieces - always have the darker side on the outside of your dragon.

Quick question before I start, did you use poly-pellets for the feet, and another question, how did you make the eyes? :3

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ProjectToothless In reply to TheJinxedJailer [2012-07-01 19:08:01 +0000 UTC]

1: no. It all synthetic micro-fiber stuffing.
2: Eyes: black piece of fabric on top of yellow piece of fabric with a narrow zig-zag seam to bind the pieces together.

Also - add an inch to the tail - it'll look a bit closer to Toothless, once finished. Having a large seam margin on the hind legs will also allow you to experiment a bit with the length of those limbs.

Good luck.

Thank you very much

No, unfortunately, I don't have any pictures... I did make some drawings explaining the hard parts, but basically, you can usually use the tutorials for the other patterns - the method is very similar.

The main differences are:
1) I cut a long hole in the body to add the wings and hind-fins - those are put into the holes and sewn on the inside. The thick "arm" parts of the wings are hand-sewn on the inside of the body in the same manner as the limbs.
2) The head is made from fewer pieces - but my pictures should show you pretty much how. The underside of the "tentacles/ears" connecting with the neck and the rest of the body was the last seam, I made - it's completely hidden underneath the ears.
3) Tips: Make the tail slightly longer - mine got a bit stumpy/short because of a sewing mistake, I made (It *is* my first real sewing project) - also, don't be afraid of making the ears too large - they'll end up much smaller than the pattern suggests. In fact, making them slightly larger than in the pattern will give you better-looking ears.

Good luck.
