Wow. Just...wow. Amazing shutter speed--amazing cameria--to capture the humming bird mid-flap. Bravo.

It's amazing how you managed to take a picture of one in midflight without the wings blurring!
And by the colors, I'm guessing it's a female.

i love it!!! kudos to you. its a great picture and very clear, cnsidering hummingbirds' wings beat at abt 10-15 times a second. and u were able to get a very nice still shot. good for you. what speed did u take it at?

prologic77 In reply to macer18 [2007-03-19 21:13:06 +0000 UTC]
I think it was at around 2000 with ISO of 400. Don't remember.
Thanks for the comment.

lovely. out of curiosity, what lens are you using?

I have used a very cheap Canon 75-300 USM lens. I bought it for $100 on ebay. I made this photo look good in photoshop.
thanks

Sounds liek a good dea - I'm kind of scared to buy used equipment so anonymously - I'm buying a Tamron 24-75 f/2.8 from a friend. That's probably the only way I'll trust a seller..
Is the background blur photoshop, or a product of the focal length?

fusinfun In reply to SaylaMarz [2007-03-20 02:05:40 +0000 UTC]
Unless i am much mistaken, the blur is the result of the large (f5) aperture, and the large separation of the bird from the background bush/tree. (might have been extra blurred in photoshop)

lol f/5 sounds like a small aperture to me....I try to work around f/1.8 or 2.8

well, some of us can't spend a lot of money on camera lenses... and 5 is pretty large on a scale that goes to 32, especially at 200m focal length. (actually larger than the max on my 55mm)

oh yea - in the zoom range the DOF is really nice still - my issue is that I do a lot of indoor work and portraits, so I need the light sensitivity and the shorter focal length with the short DOF.

yeah, indoor does take different specs. (nature and outdoor sports FTW!)

correction! 200 mm focal length
also, i didn't want to sound bitter/bitchy, but thats how it looks to me now.
