Description Oh boy. Well it's finally here. I finally made a Maya Fey sprite. Early on when I didn't think I would get very far with this I though I'd probably never get to a Maya sprite. And then even when I got better at this I still put it off knowing she was going to be a very hard project. And guess what. She was actually one of the easier ones. XD

Now originally I thought I might release the next batch as a Maya sprite, and an Ema Skye sprite. But after looking it over with both official art and character sprites...Lets just say she's been put off. She's even more detailed than Maya. So not knowing what to do, I just decided to make a Pearl sprite thinking it would be fairly simple since I'd just done Maya.

2 words. Dead wrong. I'm serious, she was hard! If you look at the sprite chart (I just edited it to add Maya's and Pearl's sprites) you can see what I was working with. Sometimes with these I can just get the sprites, put them together with a bit of recoloring and I'm done. With this one, I got the sprites I used, and pretty much had to make from scratch. Ironically on both of these the hair, which was one of the parts I expected to be one of the hardest, was by far the easiest on both of them. :/

So yes. Pearl and Maya Fey. After a long time I finally made them. And if I may say so myself, I think they turned out fairly well.

If I have some time in the following years, I may edit PokΓ©mon and change the gym leaders' sprites with these, and also change the story a little. Only with your permission, of course ^^'

I'll go through the process a bit using Maya as my example. How I begin is I go on [link]
That's where I begin all the time for sprites and reference for the character I'm making. Then I open up Microsoft Paint (Windows 7) to a file where I keep my stockpile of Pokemon sprites. Thank you spriters resource. I pick out the sprites I use, or might use as a base. Especially with the latest two I've had to do a lot of experimentation. After I decided the right sprite to use as a base I begin editing.

On Maya I basically took the Dawn from Pokemon Platinum sprite shown above, and began making a skirt on her to be more like Maya's involving extending, enlarging, and recoloring mostly. Than I added the kimono from the Erica sprite, I tweak them together, and a heck-ofalota recoloring got a fairly decent Maya body. Well technically that was after I replaced the giant boots with Jasmine's legs.

Then came the head to do. I expected the hair to be really hard on both Maya and Pearl. but they both turned out to be the easiest part. I got the face from the same Dawn sprite as before, then copied Maya's head. After getting rid of her face leaving only the hair, I resized it down quite a bit. After a bit of cleaning up since paint doesn't exactly have the best quality resize function, I had a Maya head.

Then came the last and probably my least favorite part. Minor details. This is the part where I start adding smaller things and tiny recolors, etc. For example I, used basically the same process for the magatama necklace as I did the hair. Copy, delete background, resize, clean. this step also included things like the annoying bow on her robe, putting in the flap on her robe and making her sandals accurate. After a lot of that is done, I get some feedback from a couple other people, and if no problems are found, I upload it.

Eesh! That was kinda long. It's not always as hard as it sounds. For example on the Winston Payne sprite most of the work was already done for me.

Well, in a nutshell: Paint, massive editing, massive recoloring, and annoying touching up. But I find it can be fun and usually worth while at the end. XD
