On a subway ride, we were pulling into a stop above ground when I spotted some PDA between an older teens heterosexual couple. The boy was behind the girl and so much taller that the girl was tilting her face almost directly upward and the boy was leaning over her face, kissing a la Spiderman hanging style. Poor girl's neck. xD

it's kinda weird two people can punch each others lights out and probably be up on youtube in like 10 seconds flat but kiss.... everyone just gets really uncomfortable and tries no to stare.. ... it says something about human nature but what i have no idea

Well, the answer to that is multitudinous to any student of western history. For centuries we couldn't bang without a decent probability of producing a child; and kissing is a visceral expression of affection. Skin on skin. Tongue in orifice. Naturally, given the need for children to be borne monogamously we would be predisposed to discourage graphic PDA. Meanwhile it takes FAR more conviction to kill someone than to fuck them, so, it makes sense that violence would be more acceptable entertainment.
Also there's just the simple convention that PDA is tacky. It's displaying your physical relationship in public. Meanwhile everyone just has to deal with you: someone who can't hear, see, or think as effectively about the people around you. Few things in public are as rude and annoying as someone who purposefully makes themselves oblivious.

An interesting point, but, riddle me this, hhhhow long have "kissing cams" been a thing? Only a few decades. In any case, a kissing cam is conventionally, in and of itself, considered tacky. Right up there with proposing on a jumbo screen at your local ball park. Besides, on kissing cams the kiss usually isn't graphic. No one cares about kissing, it's graphic kissing that makes people irritated and uncomfortable.
Of course, there are seemingly exceptions, like kissing booths at a carnival or bachelor/bachelorette auctions, but do these things encourage the rampant free and graphic exchange of sexual gestures? Or a tournament system wherein sexual approval is qualified by the giving and receiving of goods? The latter is still in effect, and thus monogamy---a form of this exchange---is left relatively unharmed as a cultural norm. Yeah, this sounds terribly un-sexy, but keep in mind: marrying for love or dating for the same reason is more normative now than it used to be.

True, but there's always going to be a human culture of irritation when someone deliberately makes themselves more oblivious to the people around them; because, hey, we're a communicative species: we like to talk to people, and sometimes for important reasons; so, uh, it would be nice if the people around us wouldn't make that needlessly difficult. Think how obnoxious it is when someone's on their headphones or staring down at their phone, instead of leaving themselves open to communicate with the people immediately around them. Maybe it's just me, but that's insufferable. Look, headphones are great when you're working out or on a plane or you're at home cleaning or cooking or something that's solitary. When you're in public, it's considered good manners to not essentially dull your senses. It's considered self-indulgent and irresponsible for a reason. You are literally making it harder for people to communicate information to you, when we're a verbal species. That's a big reason, I'd contend, why people resent that kind of behavior: you're making us have to work harder because you can't be bothered with common courtesy.

Believe me I dislike it too. But the problem is that everyone is shellfish these days. They cling to what, and who they're familiar with, especially with how easily they can achieve that with today's technology. That our species is devoloving into packs! We keep to families, or build up a small, manageable, group of friends and treat others, not as U.S citizens, not as fellow statesman, but snarl and glare with indifference at others we are unfamiliar with. People fear the unknown. So by definition we're all paranoid of each other.
So much for communitive species.
