they didnt rename her. the name i listed is the actress who is playing her in the movie.

theres been a huge outrage about them casting a black girl to play a mermaid. there is no excuse for such outrage except racism.

or the fact that they don't feel the race change was necessary? i mean, it's kinda the same as taking an originally back character and making them white in a reboot.

remuko In reply to ModelOmegaTyler [2019-07-12 15:50:24 +0000 UTC]

Its not the same at all because Black people arent on equal footing to white people so changing black to white, and white to black are never "equal" things.

why do they feel its unnecessary? ariel being white was arbitrary. ariel being a redhead was arbitrary. Disney had already changed things from the original version of the story when they made the animated movie. Any fans of that version could have bitched the same way you are now about "wah theyre changing it!" but it doesnt matter. It literally doesn't. The fact that anyone is bothered by this is mind boggling.

With every comment you are proving to be a delusional identity politics driven nutjob...you live in a fictional world detached from reality, better get that wake up call.

um, actually we are on equal footing because now everyone gets to treat everyone like shit in a never ending cycle of hate, and it's unnecessary because you can have the same lessons with or without a character with a specific look. i'm not saying she shouldn't be black i'm just questioning the effort of changing anything at all.

equality to those that suffer perceived inequality is to just reverse the situation to their favor

and 90% of the time those people are treated even better than the ones who are "oppressing" them. they have no idea what oppression really is. none of the modern western feminists know what misoginy really is, why don't they take a trip to an islamic state? or to an asian country? same goes for most of the minorities, they have no idea how lucky they are not to live in those other places and yet they spit in everyone faces demanding more because black people that are long dead, were abused and enslaved by whote people that are long dead.

i just feel like i want to be left alone. just because i don't like a movie doesn't mean i'm racist or i hate women, i'm just sick of being labeled by people that are way more privileged than me and that, honestly, don't deserve half of what they have

despite what you may think, a character has an identity. ariel is a caucasian redhead, not a POC and should be casted as such.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

remuko In reply to Axel-the-firedancer [2019-07-13 15:37:36 +0000 UTC]

No, that's what fans thing. Her skin color was not ever part of her identity. She's a freaking mermaid, not a human. And black people can be redheads, she might still end up having red hair (knowing disney she will).

👍: 1 ⏩: 1

Axel-the-firedancer In reply to remuko [2019-07-13 23:11:06 +0000 UTC]

you have never created something, have you? when a character is created, everythinghe is becomes part of him. the little mermaid is a danish caucasian redhead, not a black girl and disney's decision to change that is downright insulting as it basically means that her character wasn't good enough as it was.
You can have black princesses, you can have a black spiderman or a black iron man but you can't have a black peter parker and tony stark as those characters already have an identity.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

remuko In reply to Axel-the-firedancer [2019-07-14 15:43:31 +0000 UTC]

No shes not. Shes not danish and shes not even a redhead originally. Disney changed that, just like theyre now changing her skin color. Skin and hair color are equally arbitrary on a mermaid, just like eye color.

Her character was fine as it was, the change doesn't mean otherwise it just means that this girl got the part, lol. Its not insulting if youre not racist.

Lol tell that to Black Nick Fury. He is originally white. No one seems to care about Black Fury. Hmm.

👍: 1 ⏩: 1

Axel-the-firedancer In reply to remuko [2019-07-14 18:09:03 +0000 UTC]

nick fury isn't the same character. black nick fury is from the ultimate universe and is supposed to be the son of the original nick fury (just do a fucking google search before acting smug) disney is changing ariel just because people like you NEED to see "diversity" while shouting that everyone else shouldn't be bothered by a character's skin color despite going apeshit crazy every time a black character is whitewashed. stop with the double standards and stop ruining art

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

remuko In reply to Axel-the-firedancer [2019-07-15 14:26:06 +0000 UTC]

its not double standards and its not "ruining art" holy shit.

white people shouldnt be bothered when white characters skin is changed because 99% of the time their skin color isnt relevant to who/what they are. For black characters is almost universally is. Changing one and changing the other are not the same thing. There's already an oversaturation of whiteness in media, so whitewashing a black character is removing the little representation there already is, thats why its bad. Doing that to white characters is fine because it doesn't harm anything, unlike the reverse. That's why theyre not the same.

remuko In reply to derpy-potato [2019-07-10 15:43:43 +0000 UTC]

has nothing to do with SJWs and if your childhood is "insulted" by a mermaid being played by a black girl, youre racist and no one cares what you think

derpy-potato In reply to remuko [2019-07-15 15:40:04 +0000 UTC]

Asking for an accurate representation of a character is not racism, pointing at people for not liking inacurate representations of characters based on their ethnicity its racist

remuko In reply to derpy-potato [2019-07-16 13:39:36 +0000 UTC]

There is no "accurate" for a fictional species such as a mermaid. its arbitrary and saying it must be limited to white, IS racist.

Daskarios In reply to remuko [2019-07-10 16:54:18 +0000 UTC]

in many cases that's not the case, how do you think that a little girl that is red head could feel if they see that her favorite princess now is not redhead anymore because inclusivity? the problem is not that they casted a black girl for this role, but that they easily could had adapted some african myth into a movie(that there is plenity of them) but instead they choose a character that was originally envisioned as european and changed her race, and many people precive it as anti-white racism...and it's a salvadorean who tell this to you.

remuko In reply to Daskarios [2019-07-11 14:37:22 +0000 UTC]

White people are everywhere. The little white girl will be fine. Black people deserve this. Any argument suggesting otherwise is rooted in racism.

Umm what? Have you heard of this continent called Africa? You know the place black people come from? And said place has its own version of Hollywood and all that? Oh right, factual reality is "racist" to you. Black Ariel is nothing but corporate pandering to the woke morons who don't even pay to watch movies. So please shut the fuck up with the horseshit.
