Description Another university assignment thing! We had to draw a 'tree creature', working the texture of bark in there somewhere (or something). So I came up with this!

There are so many things I don't like about it! The composition is awful; everything leans to one side and there's a big empty space on the other! The background is stupid, and the bottom with the grass just looks, well, stupidly poor! And the face makes it look really GLUM. Aww.

And yet I can't be bothered working on it any further, so done it is, I say! I'll just have to try better next time and all that!

I would like to start doing more fantasy pieces like this though... Oh how I miss them!

Love the antlers - they look really symmetrical but without the usual cheating and flipping in PS (which I'm guilty of doing anyway so I'm not judging people who do hehe)

Sorry you're not satisfied with this one, but I actually like it! Since it's a rectangular-shaped piece I don't personally feel like the blank area on the left detracts too much; I feel like the composition is all right, particularly when it comes to negative space because the antlers create some really interesting shapes. He does look kinda glum though, either that or he's real tired of this shiznit.

That's a really neat design!  I agree with you that the composition looks sparse, but I wouldn't say that makes it bad!  It makes me think that the grass there is in the picture is coming from the deer itself.  Or is it a protector of the plains?  Maybe these majestic creatures oversee the hills and valleys filled with other plant-fauna, such as the leafish and rabbishes!  The creatures you make are so interesting, and it's fun to imagine different contexts for them.

Are you planning to put it in Alora Fane: Creation?  It could be a Creation counterpart to the Destruction creature the engine already has!

I thought it could work easily in AFC due to the presence of this creature type, so I may very well include it at some point! I also imagine that it's an evolved form of Leafawn, which is itself an evolved form of Rabbish!

I don't really see those flaws... I thought the grass was interesting! And I liked its expression, since it makes it look royal and stern, like a forest guardian (which it obviously resembles). In that vein, it makes sense for it to be glum, with our planet dying and whatnot. But that's just my opinion from looking at it briefly ^^

Thank you for commenting; it was interesting to read your interpretation of this! It's made me look at it a bit differently myself!

I like the poor sad deer tree thing.
