Description
I'll move this to my Scraps later, but I always find it interesting to see practice/learning sketches from people, so I thought that others might be interested in mine, too! These are obviously wolf faces. Or not obviously? I'm not exactly used to drawing them, and this is my way of familiarising myself with the idea... Well, I say 'my way', but I imagine that the only way any artist learns to draw something easily from their imagination is to first draw it a billion and one times.
I studied and drew from photos of wolves yesterday, but none of these ones used photos; I was trying to 'experiment with what I'd picked up', in a way. It's interesting, because I could never do this with human faces; they'd look truly ghastly! But there's more leeway with animal 'faces'... I hope.
I tried to do them fluidly and quickly, with little attention to details, trying to get the 'gist' of the shape cemented in my mind so then I can elaborate on the little bits later on.
Anyway, hopefully this is the start of being able to fluently and impressively draw canines, though I've got a long road ahead of me!
Also, did you know that using a muted brown background for basic sketches like these automatically makes them look more skilled and professional than they would on a solid white background?!? o_O
I should keep that in mind from now on.

I particularly love the howling wolf and the disdainful/untrusting/wary ones, and as I've said previously, I'm sort of a wolf fanatic. They're all lovely, though.

Alright, I like those. Yes, they're not refined, but the expression is captured rather well, and that's one of the points of such sketches, isn't it? ^^' To make a general base, to which will be added more details!
I particularly like this alertness / thinking expression of the wolf between top left and top middle ones; I hope you know which wolf I'm talking about? ^^'

Interestingly, that specific one was the last one that I drew, and also the only one that I tried to give any expression to! For the rest, I just focused on getting the general shape approximately right, though I wish I'd tried to give them expressions, too! Not that I know yet what wolf facial expressions look like. I know their ears reflect their mood... I should look that up; I'm sure I've seen a 'chart of canine facial expressions' before. Yes.

I mean, you seem to be able to do anything. You can draw, program games, make your characters seem like real people, and there is always something interesting around the corner. I can't do any of that. What's your secret?

Well, I am 24, and I've never had 'a life' so I've had a lot of time to practise and learn different things; time which other people spend socialising and having fun, or learning actually useful things like maths and science.
If I wanted to do some creative thing, I tried it, if I could do so without going out or talking to anyone, rather than just sitting around wishing that I could do it; that's why I compose and draw and make websites and program and stuff.
Before I was about 16, though, I don't think I could do anything!

Well, I'm only 15, so that makes me feel a little better. ^^ (And thanks for responding).

Pseudo, no offense, but stop hating on your own work. Your previous upload ('ugly wolf picture' or something like that) wasn't ugly, and this isn't sloppy. It's artwork, no matter how you look at it.

I'm actually satisfied with how this and the other thing turned out! However, I also consider the other thing 'ugly' and these 'sloppy'; I don't mean to suggest that that's necessarily a *bad* thing. Rather, I use those words to mean 'not refined'. There's also a certain level of silliness in naming them in that way; I like how it's not pretentious.

I understand, thank you very much for clarifying. I was under the impression that you were unable to see the beauty of your own skill. I was clearly wrong
