Description
I haven't submitted much dino art for a while, so I uploaded this depiction of theropod family life that I drew last year; however, I decided to color it this week. The picture portrays a mother troodonid dinosaur removing termites from a mound using a stick, meanwhile her hatchlings eagerly watch with the anticipation of a quick scrumptious snack. The use of a stick prevents soldier termites from attacking the dinosaurs as they chow down on worker nestmates. Since Troodontidae represent perhaps the smartest of cretaceous beasts, I like to believe that some troodons are akin to some clever birds we see today and learned to use tools for finding food.Hope you like this pic, I experimented a little more with lighting effects.
Enjoy,
Blair

A wonderfull Troodonmum. The idea with the sick is great! As you I like to believe, that some have used tools. I like to watch the crows and ravens and be fascinated of their intelligenz. Also the keas of New Zealand. Many birds are very smart. And as it was founded that Troodon has a big brainwhole, has this fact changed the opionon about dinosaurs. (Also the found of Deinoychus).
I love it!!!

Another amazing piece by you. I love the contrast between the more realistic adult and the cuddliness of the chicks.

Huh! Cool idea. Did dromeosaurids really hold their hands like that, with the claws inward?

Psithyrus In reply to DSil [2011-04-27 00:51:23 +0000 UTC]
Hi DSil,
I am not really sure. I did see a NatGeo show that suggested they had inward turned claws to pull prey closer to them, instead of a fully articulated wrist like the raptors had in JP.
Thanks for the kind words
best wishes,
Blair

Many thanks,
digital art allows me to draw large pictures and pack in as much detail as I can. Its fun, as long as my carpal tunnel stays in remission.
Thanks again for the kind words,

Nice. I always love depictions of dinosaur behavior other than stomping and roaring. I also like that you made all the feathers "zipped together" like on a real bird, instead of sticking out all over the place like a lot of depictions tend to do.

Many thanks John,
I think the mundane things animals do are far more interesting. Dinosaur ecology must have been more complex than simple predation.

- my life in two month ago:
Military service is obligation for all of Iranian boys (even for high educated boys). I as a high educated person started my training period of military service (police part) in 17 days ago in very cold region (mountain region) and I and other soldiers can not allow any telephone with other persons in that time. We should be in this station for two months. After two month, they give me a degree related to officers. We had hard training with variation of weapons and exercise in this very cold region. Also, I am responsible of treatment place of soldiers and patients and I always help them for treatment. I am only soldier of this soldier station that has Master of Science degree in a field related to medical subject and all of officers respect me. At last, they gave us an off (vacation for three days( Wednesday, Thursday, Friday) in this week but my bus had very bad accident with other car in road. After accident we broke windows of bus with our boots and jumping several meters of bus while I and other solders had hemorrhage in nose, mouth, hand, and knee. We spent a cold night without any enough medical help and food. Next day, they again give me vacation for three days (Thursday, Friday, Saturday). Distance between station and my home is 12 hours. Therefore, I have very short time for writing of this email while skin of my hands, nose, and head was injured. I just want you know why I can any connection in this period. -----------------------------------------------------------------
- my life in previous week:
I have recovered from your injuries from that bus accident.
time of training period was two month and four days ago, I finished training period of military service successfully in Meshginshahr County (a far and away county with very cold climate similar to pole and russia in Ardabil Province in the north west of Iran) and return home as an officer (2nd Lieutenant). I am sick because of my life condition in training period but happy for finishing of hard and very cold condition of this training period.
next week, I should start remain of military service but this time as 2nd Lieutenant in Police center related to drug in Tehran. you know I have master of science degree in Biology-Genetics....Therefore, they probably select me for Lab or publisher unit of this center....I hope!
hard cold, hemorrhage of nose, hard ear ache and headache realted to mountain and high region, loneliness, insomnia, unsafety, hard infection related to sinus of face was part of my problems in training period. remember of my hard condition in training period make me very sensetive in emotion and some time I find unsafety feeling and fear. time of remain of my military service is 14 month and I hope my condition in new center of Police will be better.
Best regards, your friend always, Amin Khaleghparast (from IRAN)
