Description Yeah, people always talk about how sonic is about running through colorful worlds(which were islands), but compared to Lost World, they still had a certain artstyle that kept them from being too bright, so they would still look cool. Just wanted to clarify.

you know this can also be used in defense of Satam having more realistic backgrounds, it just didn't use any specific locations from the games and and didn't feature any slopes, loops, or floating platforms but those were just gameplay things anyways so that's not a big deal really for a cartoon adaptation really.

Satam doesn't need the defense, it wasn't meant to be like the games period. Anyway saying so needs to get over it.

yeah I just figured it was worth bringing up since I was going to try and figure out how to combine the background designs of Satam and the games for my comic and decided to look at your meme here as a reference since it's a decent collection of the various genesis levels in one place, but considering how the adventure games already have fairly realistic designs and the genesis games also had the touch realism and the thing that made them surreal was were the gameplay stuff like the aforementioned loop and slopes and what not. but yeah I agree that Satam shouldn't be a carbon copy of the games since 1) the games didn't have much of a plot back then and 2) in adaptations there will be changes, and especially so when it comes to video game adaptations since they can't adapt the gameplay stuff without making it feel tacked on and should focus on being a good "tv show" or "comic" and focus on adapting the "spirit" of the game (if that makes sense), and I don't know about you but I think that Satam captures the "spirit" of the games.

Hum, hello ! A color palette of 64 from 512 for megadrive, which allows few color choice on screen. It was a thing every NFan talk when wanting to discrediting the console.

Of course, it gonna have few color because there's a technical limitation !

Yeah, I think you completely missed the point here. It's about HOW the colors were done for the genesis, not how many could be done, in terms of how the current game at the time, Sonic Lost World, looked like a damn Mario game when no other Sonic game was colored like that, not even Colors.

Am I the only one who really couldn't play Lost World because it hurt my eyes?

It hurt my eyes just by looking at it and I never even touch the game.

Dunno, it did hurt Sonic's image though.

And another thing.

The genesis game scenery didn't have ridiculous stuff in them like newer titles do, such as Giant Hamburgers, fruit-things with a fan that turns it into a fruit juice geyser, Bubble-worlds with silly fur-covered Pac-Man like monsters, and such.

Heck, even the Amusement Park stages (like Casino Night and Carnival Night) weren't THAT ridiculous looking.

That's the thing people don't understand, the modern games are nothing like the classics. It's really sad how people lack perspective when it comes to judging content, but they cry when Sonic is "Trying to hard to be cool". Maybe because it appeal to most other people except them? lol

This bugs me a bit. This is still colorful. Lost World is barely brighter than Sonic The Hedgehog on the Genesis. The orange and brown colors are only slightly more leaned to orange, and the grass is actually darker and less bright than that game. Desert Ruins is yellow, instead of shaded orange/gold, like Sandopolis, yes. The second to final zone, in which you fight Zavok, is much closer. Keep in mind though, that my colors are a lot darker, as I played the game on the gamepad. So I may have seen it a bit closer as it was the way I played it.

This isn't about if it's colorful or not, but Lost World was even brighter then the classics overall.

True, but not by much. But seeing these things always bugs me, as I always saw the classics as bright and colorful. More so thanΒ Mario, at that, and I always got into arguments about it before I swapped to Nintendo consoles in the great "The Sega Saturn has absolutely no games I want to play on it." Realization. At which point IΒ was completely convinced that Sonic was the bright colorful one, and the Mario games were the darker, grittier ones in terms of color.

Going by the pics there, it's quite obvious to see the classics were not as bright as the game we have before. Yeah, Sonic had more Color then Mario back then, but they still used darker colors within the stages, and Green Hill is the only bright stage in Sonic 1, and there is Labyrinth zone but it took place in a cave. Going into the modern games, Lost World was a lot brighter then any Sonic game before it, and it downright looked more like a Mario game then anything else.

Unfortunately, you pretty much know what would happen if a silver (half-pun) of grey or brown was allowed into the pallets...

Psyco-The-Frog In reply to MasterPerryMartin [2013-09-22 01:12:14 +0000 UTC]

What would happen, because from the start, I already see brown in green hill, and grey in chemical plant, and SOni 3 Marbel garden seems to have both....

MasterPerryMartin In reply to Psyco-The-Frog [2013-09-22 01:48:00 +0000 UTC]

Sorry, forgot about that. I mean completely brown and grey like most FPSs.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Psyco-The-Frog In reply to MasterPerryMartin [2013-09-22 07:39:12 +0000 UTC]

But Sonic has nothing to do with any of those and never has, plus, if you have a 360 with XBLA, I suggest you go through the games, you'll findΒ some games withΒ a good amount of colors and still try to be more then a generic platformer.

Anyway, the whole point of the was to point out that Sonic games weren't as bright and colors to the same extent we're getting in Lost World, so the whole "Sonic always ran through colorful worlds" excuse doesn't hold much weight, especially when it looks it could be the next Mario Galaxy.
