Description
Wanted to say "What Boom refuses to do" but I wanted to leave the slogan intact. Despite also being made for kids, modern TMNT is nowhere near as bad as Boom, and in fact, the 3 episodes I watched were actually decent, 1 even taking it's premise seriously. I've also heard lately that the earth was blown up and the turtles are on another planet. Gonna try watching more of this one day, but I've only been keeping up with Disney's Guardians of the Galaxy. To add insult to injury, even the modern TMNT game was better then Boom's WiiU title. To put it simply, TMNT simply does in CGI what they mostly did in animation back in the 80's. Boom on the other hand, didn't even have the decency to be like AOSTH, but another carbon copy of modern CN BS.

I'd give one too you but TSSZ backlogs are hell to go through when it comes to things like this. Give me a few days and I'll have something.

TSSZ? It should be on some official Sonic Boom page or something, shouldn't it? Like this official page:
www.sonicthehedgehog.com/boom/β¦
Says it's "comedy and action" in here.
They at least confess here that it "pokes fun at action adventure storytelling"... however they quickly add that it "delivers plenty of adrenaline". I beg to differ. Nothing about it being slice of life. To me it seems that came up with it later in the run of the show to cover up for the lies they spread about it prior. The character descriptions are also hilariously false.
But hey, it's probably true that not many people were deceived by this false advertising... because they didn't really advertise the show. Who knows about it aside of Sonic fans who (by now) know perfectly what to expect, right?

The show page on the site is the last thing to go to when we have statements from the Writers calling it Slice of Life before the show started airing.

That's the interesting thing about it. The actual official description of the show on official and public places is "the last thing to go to", while some interviews that can only be encountered by highly invested niche Sonic crowd is not only the sole source of information about the real nature of the show... but it's also the sole source of the lore behind it - sometimes even knowledge required to actually get the settings. The interviews are the only place where the show background things are established. And in the show, those things are almost never manifested. Only like in one episode and it's almost always only used so it can be twisted.

Yes and No. The main site is done by people outside the development team, so they're going off of old documents that were made irrelevant later on down the road. The interviews are for people who want to make comprehensive criticism of the show beyond an Episode by Episode basis, so that they don't look foolish when they try to give a genre to it. Beyond that though my original point stands that bashing Boom for being what it is because it isn't what it's not isn't valid. Are there reasons to dislike it, yeah there are. Is this one of them? No it's not. It makes you look really petty and shallow when you do it this way.

Same could be said about TMNT. If they decided to make it into a stupid comedy, they could as well. Even despite TMNT was never conceptualized like that - the very same can be said for Sonic.
And my point was merely that in the most public and most easily accessible sources, they are just describing this show like it was supposed to be this TMNT show. Normal watchers are not supposed to be the people who need to delve deep into the franchise to discover that there is a contradicting info that describes the show as almost its complete opposite.

What? Why is that something you're bringing up?
Normal watchers, from what I've seen based on my family, and my friend's kids, they don't go to the official site to learn about the show. They go to the show. They learn from the show, then if they want to know more they type what they want to know in a search bar (Bing Google Yahoo) and usually (with one unfortunate but funny exception) they are brought to the fan run Wiki's and sometimes Sonic Channel. Never the Sonic Boom site.

Some of them, in others it's not even given a genre.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaand which game company is still producing its own consoles?

I see a lot of people make that statement, ignoring the fact that the WiiU did so badly that even the Dreamcast was more successful in its short life span, and Sega has no problem making online games and a least keeping up with trends in gaming.
Oh, and Sega's 1st party games are better.

Well... to be fair, the Wii U did eventually outsell the Dreamcast. Just saying.Β

And that means something? The DC has a much shorter life span and had sells taken away by the PS2, yet the WiiU, some 16-17 years later, "eventually" outsold it, which took it 2 years to do?
Again, I have to ask, did that mean anything?

Yeah I can kind of see where this guy is going. I mean... I happen to own a Wii U. It's become one of my most used consoles of this year thanks to the likes of games such as Super Smash Bros and Shovel Knight. It could use more games though, probably even have some ports of third-party games available on the eshop. Though I can see why some people were disappointed in it as they were expecting more from it.Β

More power to you if the WiiU is your mos used console, but to put it frankly, I can get more and better games on my PSVita. That includes Playstation All-Stars, with a better cast then Smash Bros.

Eh, on the first party games part, that's subjective, I'd say.
It'll probably turn around when the NX comes out.
π: 0 β©: 1
Psyco-The-Frog In reply to SilverKazeNinja [2015-12-12 08:51:33 +0000 UTC]
It's not that subjective. Nintendo's making the same damn games while Sega, despite what they did to Sonic, produced a good variety of games that are more in touch with our Generation, from Hell Yeah! to the continued Yakuza series. I've yet to see a Nintendo game subjectively better then those to games at their own genre.
As far as the NX goes, I doubt that, this is Nintendo we're talking about, even on a good day they'll either produce the same crap that only gets attention because it's from them(and many still didn't sell), or ruin then like they did Skyward Sword and Other M. What will turn this all around is if they get new management, which they do need, or we'll end up with another gamecube, and from most of the info I gather, not one of their best times.

Well, if there is any that I can think of, it's that Character Development is VERY hit-and-miss per episode due to Status Quo jargin.
There are a bunch of episodes that focus on teaching Raph to NOT be a Jerk, or Donny NOT to be a Stalker, but a few episodes later, they're back to not learning anything. Mikey, despite being comic relief, is never given any serious moments and thus is becoming both a nuisance and a shame for a wasted character. Can't really say much for April, and this incarnation of Casey is nothing more than a 3rd wheel. The only character who actually learns and grows in the show is Leonardo, and I believe that's only because he's the leader...

Psyco-The-Frog In reply to BigJohnnyCool [2015-12-12 08:42:36 +0000 UTC]
Aside from Donnie, Raph and Mikey's characters aren't that big of an issue. Of course Raph is gonna have an attitude even when taught not to, he's suppose to be the bad boy of the group. Mikey is also suppose to be the comic relief, and I hardly saw him in serious moments in the 2K series. The only problem this show really has is presenting the turtles in a more cartoony way then they should have.

I really found myself liking the 2013 TMNT even tuning to see what they did next with its plot that yeah......it did take seriously. Boom only got me 3 to 4 episodes with the occasional glimpses before I just gave the fuck up on it. I just found it super boring not even attempting to deviate or do anything with its premise beyond stupid lazy comedy. Battle of the Boy Bands is my best example of them doing jack shit when it comes to being interesting like referencing Justin Beiber like it's the fucking 2010s with an absolutely forgettable premise that means nothing. I could rant on and on (lord knows I will eventually) about how this cartoon was made in the wrong era as eveident by its dated way of portraying humor but people already know that (at least the should)

Well to me they both look terrible, because people today are so obsessed with modernizing already appealing characters by making them look crappier because they think that it's cool. And either of their previous appearances in animation would have far more appeal to me than these two shows.

I don't like the look myself either, and it's what kept me from watching for a while, but that's not what this is about. In comparison, MTMNT is a much better show then Sonic Boom.
