Description
Just a little something I drew to fill in the long stretch of time in which I didn't draw anything. Behold, the last unicorn from, well, The Last Unicorn! It's coloured mainly by painting with watercolour graphite, but some is just plain studio pencil.
I'm really, really disappointed with how it turned out on the scanner. I had to tweak it a bit in Photostudio because it looked that bad, and still looks bad. So, take my word for it - it looks a lot nicer in real life.

Very cute colours! I really like the portrait image that you've gone for. Would you consider adding more foliage to the border? Spring-orientated leaves and flowers perhaps? Some very fresh greens (European trees have some interesting leaf patterns) would look really nice in there.
Your unicorn leans more heavily towards anime style rather than horse anatomy, but would you consider arching the neck a little? I personally love crested necks on equines, so that might just be me. You could also round the fetlocks on the legs, to shorten the canon bones (hind legs more so - front near side is well done). A bit of dishing on the forehead would be cute too... but since I spend a lot of time looking at horses, this is all just personal opinion ^^
The ends of the mane vanish a bit - would you consider having a few more tips hang in sight, perhaps under the belly? The curls that you have already are lovely, especially on the tail and forelock.
I haven't written a proper critique using the feature and everything before... The star ratings scare me.

Awesome! Thanks for the critique. *_* Not many people bother.
I was a bit unimaginative with the leaves because I kept running out of aesthetically-pleasing ideas for the plantation, so I had to Google Image search a bunch of different things. I didn't think of any spring-blooming foliage though, that's a good idea.
Originally I was going to have her pull her head back more, but when I started on my second copy it didn't work out. Eheh.
I agree with the mane observation, now that I really look at it: it does seem to cut off a bit too sharply, doesn't it?
Cheers dude!

Like the shading on the unicorn and the vines around the boarder are a win!
I think having the same blue in the background kinda blends in a bit too much though.
Nice work

Yeah, scanner turned it to shit. I should have used a different colour as well.
Cheers!

No worries. Scanners just fail at everything. They normally turn my work to a pile of dung stuck to a sheep's wooly ass, after I have spent hours trying to work the damn machine too.
Having a laptop with internet has solved that though and made uploading easier. I cut out the middle-man (scanner), take photos of my work with an uber digital camera and upload.
They might not look that good, but for me it's easy and the camera doesn't take away from the pencil work.

Thanks! I'm glad I added the border as a last-second thing, originally there was gonna be nothing.

You're welcomez~ :3 I think it looks pretty with the boarder. :D Kinda makes me think of those images you get in story books.

I tried to write a critique, but it won't let me since I'm not subscribed at the moment. >
So I'll add my 2 cents here:
I think you've done well preserving the look and feel of the unicorn, especially in the face and they way the hair of the mane and tail flow. The horn could possibly be a little more delicate, as it seems slightly too heavy for the slight frame of the head. This is a minor issue though.
I also like the texture that the pencil colouring of the background provides, and I think the colours really help the image stand out, without drowning out the unicorn by being too vivid.
Take that dA! You can't stop my critiquing!

DA: Curses! Foiled again!
Ah, I didn't give that horn a second thought when I drew it. I'll remember that for next time. I'm glad there's SOMETHING right about the colours, in any case.
Thanks for the critique!

I used to watch this movie all the time. The hind legs look very pretty and well done, in my opinion. Lurrrve it.

Colors always turn into crap when scanned, I have no idea why.
Regardless, this is very well done! You barely noticed the more sketchy border of flowers and butterflies because of the beauty of the horse!

Yes, it has a very melancholic undertone, doesn't it?
