Description
My second entry to this weeks speed modelling competion over at 3dtotal.com. This weeks theme: electronic portable communicationThis is the Matrix phone from the second and third matrix films. They had a great design, with the top "speaker" section snapping up when actived. A few years ago, Samsung actually produced a limited number of these models as actual working phones. They cost quite a bit, but were fully funtional and able to be added to any cell phone plan and used as a regular phone.
I actually know someone with one of these, however he just keeps it in a glass case instead of using it...he thinks cell phones are evil (though, he sells them for a living)....foolish person. This should be used all the time. How cool would you look walking down the street with one of these?
Anyways, this is my exact entry for this week...wire frame and all intact. Here are the specs:
Modelling: 60 min
Texturing: 20 min
Lighting/Rendering: 15 min
Modelled in Maya 6.0.1, photoshop 7.0 used to composite pictures together.

Wow I love this phone design but I never thought I'd see a 3d model of it.

That's pretty awesome man! I love the detail! *If possible, do you think you can do the same with with the phone from the first film?

Wow, another crit on the background? I'll really have to look more carefully when I comp stuff together....I really liked the background, but so far it seems to be the only thing wrong with it.
But, yes, the matrix universe is very cool....err, well at least, the matrix half of it...I don't really care for the designs in the real word, but most of the stuff in the actual Matrix is quite cool....this phone, though totally excesive, is just too cool not to own.

WOWOWOW!! Even though Matrix had it's obvious flaws, you cannot deny just the ulimate COOLNESS of that universe, eh? I mean, WEARING SUNGLASSES ALL THE TIME!! When you're cool, the sun's always shinin'!
ANYWAYS, enough of my corny phrases; on with the crit! LOVE IT and you got it in a nice matrixy design! My only crit I guess is it is hard to see the phone on the busy bg, yet I still like the bg very much. Hm... maybe if you gave the phone a drop-shadow or something, so the black would stand out more against the bg?
I like how you are experimenting with compositions around your pieces though! Very neat-o! (you tell anyone I said 'neat-o' and I shall deny it whole-heartedly)

woah.
good stuff.
id rather see if rendering on a plan background, since the matrixy stuff is just distracting and very much unfitting with the textures you created there.
awesome job though.
give me a plain render! plz!

Well, since this is a speed competition, I have to get creative on the presentation....I don't have the time to model everything I can, so what I do have I need to show off as well as I can.
The picture I comped together is actually similar to an add for the actual real life, Matrix Phone, I found while searching for some ref material to model from. So I whipped it up as closely to the original add as I could, and I thougth it turned out quite nicely. Never had a second thought about the presentation.....but I'll see about trying to post up the original render of the phone just on pure black.

or a white bacgkround
i'd rather see a nice stochastic render of it.
i just dont like the matrix background cause it really distracts me from a really good render (or so it appears to be)
