Being new to the area meant a lot of things, like getting settled down, getting to know everyone, getting groceries... and so forth. You just arrived to the Miyagi Prefecture which felt so much more spacious than the city that you used to go to. A lot calmer too. It was unsettling but you'd have to get used to it somehow.

You began attending Aoba Johsai, which was situated nearby a convenience store so your parents sent you there often to pick up groceries after school. There usually wasn’t a lot of people, and usually just one person at the register too.
He was wearing the same school uniform as you underneath his store apron.

'Oikawa Tooru'

That was his name tag. Who? A third year, right?

“Is that all today?” He asked smiling his characteristic charming smile at you.

Ah, you knew him now. Constantly surrounded by masses of fans. Originally you thought he was arrogant and egotistical, but seeing him in a humbling work environment like this make him just seem so different. You jusg couldn't put your finger on it.

“Yeah, that’s all thanks!” You stuffed the receipt into your pocket and took off from the store flashing your own sweet smile at him.

The moment you got home you immediately set the items on the counter and began mindlessly putting them into their proper areas while you mindlessly thought to yourself.

Why was Oikawa working at the convenience store? Isn't he a super popular volleyball player? Shouldn't he be at practice? The questions kept coming and began to flow out of you as you began to whisper out each question.

You continued to visit the store and Oikawa as the days rolled by, chatting with him whenever possible. The volleyball captain was more than just good looks, he was genuinely funny and was loaded with fun stories that have never been told. Plus this was your only chance to talk, or even see him due to his ability to attract almost anyone to him.

"Can I ask you kind of a weird question?"

"Hmmm? What is it [f/n]-chan?"

"So why are you working here?"

The setter looked down at his shoes, your heart skipped a beat. His expression became slightly solemn, "I injured my knee a while ago and I decided to work here in the mean time. Plus I can help my nephew earn money for school. I want him to go to college,"

Your hand moved to your heart, wanting to clutch it and squeeze it. This was just too much for you. Oikawa was beyond a sweetheart.

Days passed and you no longer needed to get daily groceries, you just came purely to see the setter. He wasn't there however. And your heart stopped. Oh damn you Oikawa, tampering with your heart.

Ah, maybe he got a new job. One with a better pay probably. Which job, you didn't know, but you were going to find out.

You stopped at multiple places around the area. Yet there was still no sign of him.

A sigh escaped your lips, partially from exhaustion and partially from disappointment. You headed home. Maybe he just got tired of you.

You decided to clean out your pockets and bag from the receipts that you carelessly stuffed inside. You smoothened one out.

'xxx-xxxx call me!! -oikawa' was written on it. Your head slammed against the table. Each and every receipt had his cellphone number written on it.

Hurriedly, you punched in the numbers into your phone, waiting with anticipation for his answer. For his voice.

"Hello?"

"Tooru where did you go!!?!"

"[f/n]-chan? Finally you called! I have good news!"

"Eh?"

"My knee got better!"

You heart was near bursting. "I was so worried about you!! I stopped at five or six stores just to try to find you."

"Or just one. If you had just asked the store manager, she would have told you I got better and now I go to volleyball practice instead,"

You shut off the phone and slammed you head on the table again.

But wait, since he was at volleyball practice, he should still be there.

The gym was bursting, since there was a game going on between another school that happened to be visiting. You snuck in and waited for the game to finish, which resulted in the other school winning. Some powerhouse your school was.

The teams cleaned up and left, leaving you the opportunity to talk to the volleyball captain.

"Tooru!" You launched yourself at him and hugged him tightly. This was the first time you could see him without a counter in between the two of you.

The brunet returned the hug and started laughing.

"Wh-what are you laughing about?!" you pulled away from him.

"I'm s-sorry [f/n]-chan," he said, still full of giggles, "I just find it so f-funny that you went to all these places to find me,"

Your cheeks reddened as you scowled, "I was worried ok!!?"

His laughing calmed down as he smiled the same genuine smile that he always did to you in the store, "I know,"

Oikawa leaned in placing a soft peck on your forehead.

"And it was the sweetest thing anyone's ever done for me," he whispered.
