Description and now - my longest artist's comment here on DA
1. Disney. That’s my childhood and it’s deep within me and strangely enough it defined lots of things about me/
2. Ghibli Studio. Is there any need for words? Spirited Away, Howl’s Moving Castle, Princess Mononoke and many others are in my heart forever.
3. Sailor Moon. Well, I guess that was my first conscious inspiration. I learned lots of useful stuff while drawing my own sailor characters and tracing existing pictures of Sailor Moon. I was like 8-10 years old XD My parents really hated that anime!
4. Yoshitaka Amano. His works inspire so much I almost cry every time I see his delicate lines and intricate ornaments and tender colors. The verbal association is “slipping away beauty”/
5. Ayami Kojima. That’s a very important influence. I can’t tell the exact moment when it happened but one day I looked at this particular painting and told to myself “someday I’m going to be a cool artist too. Let’s work hard!”. That’s how it was, although I’ve never played Castelvania.
6. Vampire The Masquerade Bloodlines art…wow, that’s is…actually the reason why most of my digital paintings look a bit blurry, a bit messy and sketchy. I must tell you – if there is a game in the whole world that influenced my perception of the modern art, the art itself and my own art in particular then it’s VTMB. The concept art is not just beautiful it’s GENIUS. It’s the most atmospheric, scary, romantic and stylish things in game art that I’ve ever seen *setting FF art by Amano aside*Big thanks to Jason Anderson and his team who worked on the game!
7. Tim Burton. That lovely British man taught me how to love my characters and how to make fun of them. He also taught me to see deeper than just a surface.
8. Gustav Klimt. One day I just found myself oh so in love with his paintings. His works make me feel a bit like Alice in Wonderland and that’s just what I need to create.
9. Alphonse Mucha. This artist always puzzled me. How could he use colors in such modern way? I worship his works. Really.
10. Encyclopedia of Drawing. That’s probably something that only a Russian person would understand. Maybe not even every Russian person. There was a time when many kids of my age had this book. It’s kind of a step-by-step, nothing special, but it covers lots of different styles and at a time I found it quite useful for my little me ^__^
11. Tsuta Suzuki. I’m not a bug fan of manga but there are two artists that I really like. This is the first one ^_^ Her style is very interesting, both in colors and the lineart. I learned quite a bit about facial expressions from her works and also I had a great time reading her mangas – she can be intense, sexy and sooooo adorable. Her characters are vivid, dynamic and nit cliché.
12. Miamoto Kano. That’s the second mangaka that influenced me. Her stories are amazing, somehow they really touch me somewhere deep down but her art is what amazes me the most – the way she skillfully combines manga style with traditional coloring. At first it may look strange but after a while I’ve grown to admire her style. Because of her I adopted a kind of a semi-realism in my recent works ^^
13. Dolls. My most favorite Japanese movie from my most favorite Japanese film director. The slow pace of the movie, the mixture of something so traditional and so very modern inspired me many years ago and I still carry the echo of that impression in my heart.
14. My Blueberry Nights. This movie helped me understand the meaningfulness and beauty of colors. Before I’ve seen this film Id seen colors in a separate world from mine. I didn’t consider the idea of putting color in my own work because I was so afraid to spoil something, to overdo something, to create some ugly color palette, but watching all those magnificent color schemes in the movie I thought that I should be bold, I should color my art world, I should put some meaning, some atmosphere in my works. And so I did.
15. The Doors. I can’t put into words HOW this movie and this band make me feel. I just can’t but know this – If it weren’t for them music would have been just music for me.
16. American Pop. Well, that’s a hard one. I just love the style and the theme. I can’t explain how exactly it influenced me but it’s been a meaningful experience.
17. JRR Tolkien. This writer made me crazy about fantasy, elves and all that stuff. Then I grew up and he made me crazy again about linguistics, Folklore and culture.
18. Again, something that only a Russian person would understand. Imagine this – the last time I’ve seen this book (The Russian Alphabet by Benua) was when I was 4 or 6 years and I STILL remember every fucking page in great detail. Some pages scare me, some make me curious but not one of them makes me bored of uninterested. I just say that’s the best illustrated book I’ve ever had in my library.
19. Ancient Egypt. A long time ago I was very interested in Egyptian mythology and art. Perhaps, it was because of this particular hobby of mine that I understood that there is a real concept behind a picture (or rather icon). That’s a very important realization if you come to think of it ^__^
20. Oscar Wilde…No comments. His my personal Jesus!
21. The Last Day In Pompei by Karl Bryullov. When I was a kid my mum always dragged me to the museums but somehow she missed out the part where I had to LOVE what I see and appreciate it because it’s ART. So I was kinda hesitant and unhappy each time we visited a museum. With just one exception – when it came to The Last Day Of Pompei. I don’t know what clicked in my little child brain but I sat before that painting for two hours and just stared. And I really FELT the horror and desperation and misery of all the people in the painting. It was sort of strange for me to release that paintings are not necessarily boring and emotionless – they can be alive and dynamic.
22. Hamlet Machine. She doesn’t know about me but luckily I know about her and her art influenced me in lots of ways XD
23. Frank Miller. I can’t say that the man inspires me right now but there were some long years where I really looked up to him.
24. Marvel. Thank to them I decided that I should buy a tablet!yay!
25. Deviant Art. Where would I’ve been without you, sweet DA!?
26. Wacom. Tools define artist in a number of ways. Having a tablet brought me to the today-me and I’m very grateful!
27. Mr. Depp. This person taught me a lot of things about art in all its diversity. His movies are eternal source of ideas and inspiration for me *I guess I’m not the only one”
28. Lisa Gerrard. She’s one hell of atmospheric singer. In a chill-you-to-the-bone kind of way. I like that.
29. Antony Hegarty. The more I listen to him the more I become convinced that he’s not a human. Seriously. His voice and lyrics are pure inspiration.
30. Buck-Tick. My ultimate muses. The best music for me, the best people and all that. My friends probably hate me for blabbering about them all the time but I just can’t shut up - this band is soooo very important for me. All my art in the last year is the result of their music and performances.

Awesome! It's great to see inspirations of other artists. Yey Marvel! <3 Also, it's very interesting to be inspired by things one cannot see, such as music and pop culture, although I think everyone is inspired by those types of things, myself included.

I think that the things that we don't see influence us more rather than some material things. Intangible things go right into our hearts and souls and that's what i call-pure inspiration
yeah, Marvel is...epic!

Yes, I agree! I think it's really cool that way. I think we can't help but be influenced by our own thoughts, and music helps us to think.
Very epic indeed! XD I love comics, personally, even DC.

i see that we have quite the same influences but it's awesome that each of us interpret it in so many, different ways

i think this "influence map" is really great way to organize our thoughts, inspirations etc.

I guess that's exactly what makes any influence interesting - the ability to interpret it the way you want!
haha, I'm glad we have things in common *aside from the obvious japanese band..hehehe*

Just felt like sharing it since I don't know many who likes the Doors o.o
