Description First of all, 99% of the time, no babies are killed during abortion. Most abortions are carried out when the fetus is just a non-sentient fetus. The few times when they happen during late-term pregnancies is to preserve the mother's life, or when the baby won't survive childbirth.

There are, however, loads of instances in which anti-abortionists have directly and indirectly killed actual people. There was that tragedy with Savita Halappanavar, who was refused abortion, and died as a result of a miscarriage: [link] .

There have also been many accounts of anti-abortionists first-degree murdering/injuring doctors and bombing clinics/hospitals (just naming some examples):

In addition, any attempt to illegalize abortions will just result in making abortions unsafe. Unsafe abortions kill 70,000 women a year. On top of that, an average of 300,000 women die from childbirth each year.

No one who values life would support any of this.

Nope.  A fetus is a potential human.  There is a difference.

Similar top the difference between a normal Human being and a comatose one?

punctual3 In reply to PeteSeeger [2014-03-10 20:06:16 +0000 UTC]

The only difference between a comatose human and a normal human is that one is unconscious and the other isn't.   Unlike a fetus, a comatose human being isn't something underdeveloped.  A comatose human also isn't living inside and directly off another person.   You're not very good at this, are you?

PeteSeeger In reply to punctual3 [2014-03-10 20:28:35 +0000 UTC]

An individual in a coma's entire life is based on someone paying the medical bills to keep them alive. They ARE living directly off of another Human being. A fetus is a Human being. They are aware of their own existence and they are living beings.

punctual3 In reply to PeteSeeger [2014-03-11 00:55:00 +0000 UTC]

Oh stop. Even you know that a person surviving off of medicine payed by someone else isn't the same thing as something physically living off a human they're inside of.  I don't even think you tried at all.   And no, a fetus isn't aware of it's own existence until after 2-4 months. More than 99% of abortions happen before then.

I shouldn't have to try when it's something as simple as the right of a child to be born. And there are more than a few who differ with you on that last thing.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

punctual3 In reply to PeteSeeger [2014-03-11 03:28:00 +0000 UTC]

But, apparently you can't understand something as simple as the difference between living off a person's body and living off of medicine paid by someone's money. If those who "differ" with me on the last thing aren't people who understand the fetal development through REAL medical sources, their opinions don't mean anything.

What the hell are you talking about? You asked for a scientific definition of a human being, and I gave you one.

PeteSeeger In reply to punctual3 [2014-03-14 20:46:56 +0000 UTC]

But that never defined when it becomes a Human being.

punctual3 In reply to PeteSeeger [2014-03-15 05:26:38 +0000 UTC]

It becomes a human being when it begins to shows the qualities of what defines a human being on that page. This isn't rocket science.

PeteSeeger In reply to punctual3 [2014-03-15 16:40:25 +0000 UTC]

And the definition of a fetus is an unborn human being thus a fetus innately has human qualities.

That specific entry about a Human being didn't. This one did. And it is called an encyclopedia.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

punctual3 In reply to PeteSeeger [2014-03-16 15:54:57 +0000 UTC]

You didn't give a definition from a real encyclopedia.  You just made it up.  A fetus doesn't have "innate human qualities" until the later stages of development.  1% of abortions happen at that time, and it's only done when absolutely necessary.

Nat-Evans In reply to PeteSeeger [2014-04-30 11:28:00 +0000 UTC]

lol lemme just jump in here. no, truth is not relative.

some things are open for interpretation, some are not.

some things are a matter of opinion, some things are not.

i can believe dogs can fly all i want, but that's not an opinion, that's delusion because the fact is that dogs cannot fly no matter what i choose to fool myself with.

I can think blue is an ugly color, it's a simple opinion and i'm neither right nor wrong, for blue is not in fact neither pretty or ugly. it's a matter of personal taste.

big difference.

so yeah, fetuses are not human, they are blobs of cells with the potential of becoming humans. about half of them will never become human even if they're not aborted.

if you think abortion is a crime, every single woman who has ever had unprotected sex should be in prison, because most of these women have been "pregnant" for a few weeks, had a miscarriage and never even notice.

I think what really matters in the abortion discussion is that unwanted kids are scientifically proven to do worse in life. they are likely to be sociopaths and have various emotional/mental disorders and are not likely achieve much academically.

and of course, no woman should be forced to endure a pregnancy and childbirth, risk her life, ruin her life to care for an unwanted child simply because the condom broke once. it's still her body.

grown woman with a body, feelings, a life, people to care for X a blob of cells with the potential of becoming a miserable, sad, poor person with psychological issues.

which is worth more?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

PeteSeeger In reply to Nat-Evans [2014-04-30 23:40:48 +0000 UTC]

Starting at Paragraph 7
1) Everything living is a blob of cells.

2) That makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. If someone has an abortion they can't have had a miscarriage.

3) I know for a fact half the time you people say something is "scientifically proven" you're just repeating someone else has said to you on the topic.

4) From the second she becomes pregnant she is sharing that body with another living being. Don't want children, don't have sex.

5) Anyone can become like that if they allow themselves to.

6) Neither.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Nat-Evans In reply to PeteSeeger [2014-05-01 00:08:35 +0000 UTC]

1: all living things are blobs of cells but not every blob of cells is a conscious, living creature. very common fallacy there.

2: it does. my point was that almost 50% of fetuses don't survive anyway, so making a big deal out of abortion is hypocritical and silly.

3: you couldn't possibly know that. and it's not the case here. also, that's not an argument and it doesn't prove what i said wrong at all.

4: don't want children don't have sex? i smell hypocrisy. and no she's not sharing, she just has a parasite inside of her that she's feeding and sheltering. we usually don't like parasites, and women's bodies are extremely hostile to fetuses and sperm as it is, you would know that if you actually knew a damn thing about human pregnancy and conception, and fetus/embryo development.

5: that doesn't at all negate the fact that when an unwanted child is born, it is pretty much bound to be miserable.

6: ?

If i'm having sex with my boyfriend and the condom breaks, i don't believe it's fair for anyone to force me to have a 9 months painful, dangerous pregnancy, give birth, yet another painful, terrible, dangerous experience, and then have to afford and endure an unwanted child, or even go through the trouble of sending it to an orfanate, and then be considered an evil bitch by the world. i don't believe that is a fair punishment for being unlucky, not even for being irresponsible.

tell me more about this issue when you're a pregnant woman.

PeteSeeger In reply to Nat-Evans [2014-05-01 00:16:48 +0000 UTC]

1) According to you.

2) Where exactly do you get that figure?

3) You people twist around facts to meet your own political ends.

4) I'm fucking tired of you damn Pro-Choicers calling babies parasites.

5) That is a load of horse shit that you people use to justify murder.

6) Neither is worth more.

7) Then you shouldn't have been having sex.

8) You can lecture me on this if you're an aborted fetus.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Nat-Evans In reply to PeteSeeger [2014-05-01 10:09:25 +0000 UTC]

1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6: no.

YOU CAN LECTURE ME ON THIS WHEN YOU GO AND ADOPT SOME KIDS. or maybe when you know what it feels like to shit a watermelon out of your penis, how about that? then the "don't have sex then" wouldn't seem so nice would it? women shouldn't have sex to avoid pregnancy, so should all men be gay or some shit? what the fuck kind of solution is that? Fucking christians.

you fucking anti-choice, anti-freedom and anti-women people, you think you're so nice and right and kind, care so much about kids when they're unborn and have no feelings and no pain, but after they're born, fuck them, right?

you don't give a shit about unwanted kids being abused by their parents, you don't give a shit how miserable kids in orfanates are, you don't give a shit that so many of those will grow up to become sociopaths, rapists or murderer, because that's the likely outcome for people who received no love, affection and attention in their childhood. THEN it's got nothing to do with you, right?

i bet you hate the idea of paying taxes and helping the poor, i bet you would never adopt a child, but god fucking forbid an extremely poor woman who's been raped from putting an end to further suffering. no, she deserves the misery of pregnancy + childbirth + having her whole life ruined by all that unnecessary shit. but you can't even imagine how all that is not a fair punishment for anything, even just being irresponsible, or simply unlucky, because you're just a selfish little man who lack empathy for anything that is actually alive.

As if the world weren't already saturate of people, frankly.

Abortions RARELY kill babies.  I know this is a debatable issue, but in the third trimester, I do consider it to be a case of death if the baby is aborted though.  Even then, I don't believe that anybody who carries this out should be convicted of murder, since late term abortions are only done when absolutely necessary.

Maskydoo In reply to punctual3 [2013-11-26 20:23:17 +0000 UTC]

Abortions never kill babies.
Besides, no one carries a pregnancy that long and then aborts in the third trimester unles the fetus isn't even viable.
