Description
The Cat and the Fiddle.Thomas plays a mournful melody in remembrance of his beloved soulmate who was caught by a string maker only days before. Unable to bear the weight of grief at losing her, the last thing he could do was steal the strings woven from her gut. He now plays to remember her as they can be together in song.

Aw, such a sad story! (I love cats.)
As for the pic, it's really beautiful. The lighting's perfect and it emphasizes the sadness.

THAT. Is lovely. The little backstory blurb really gives it a punch, too.
I should probably stop commenting on everything you've ever touched and actually go look at it....

I gotta say I love this. Brilliant use of color & composition really emphasises the loneliness of the character.

wait, so they used to use cat guts as violin strings?????
1. how is that even possible?? (no pictures please, i dont think my stomach could handle it)
2. That so downright Cruel
knowing the behind-the-picture story made this piece all the more tragic and sad.
but the details are gorgeous

Cat gut is short for Cattle gut, so no, they didn't use cats but it is organic. I used the term as a pun here since cats are familiar animals to people in a sympathetic way.

Wow... that's heartbreaking. XD But sort of twisted, too. I love how gritty all of your artwork looks. It's quite fitting, especially for a piece such as this one.

Oh man. Seriously love the details here...
Looks like it came out of a movie... Had Fievel in mind hahah
Did you do the background traditionally? Or did you do all of it digitally?

Everyone has already said what I wanted to! But I still think that this is very beautiful, and has a lot of heart and character. It's easy to read, and fun to look at. I love the cat's design.

Wow this is absolutely beautiful, but I think it's the story that makes this picture so incredible. Otherwise it would "just" be cat playing a violin.

This is such a beautiful picture. It really caught me the moment I saw it with its somber mood and oldschool cartoon style that is so classy and unique. I really adore the expression on Thomas the cat's face. The lighting in this piece is absolutely beautiful and goodness do I ever love that background. I really like the dusty, gritty way in which the town was shaded, it seems very fitting for this piece. I am just wishing that this was a whole written story or cartoon to watch. It has a beautiful message behind it evident right from the imagery itself.
I always loved your work so much and I am so happy to see new things by you.

I like the piece, and the inspiration... But I feel I should defend string-makers a little... The term "catgut" in reference to the intestinal material used to make musical strings (and other things) "way-back-when" doesn't really refer to the use of Cats gut.... It is pretty much a derivation of the term "cattle gut". Which is was a term for the use of cattle/sheep/goat intestine for the process.
Many, many, many people think that it does refer to cats though.

Yes, I know that, but this is a storytelling work and if we always followed everything by what it is in the real world or what it is in the logical world then stories would be very dull. It also wouldn't be as sympathetic of a story to use a cow or a sheep or a goat when its called catgut and would require a lot of extraneous explanation that's not really going to work. A play on words in a fantasy world is all this is meant to be.

Yeah, I pretty much figured that you knew what you were doing lol... I just personally know a lot of people who mistake the use of the word as said.
But either way, your work is (as usual) very good. :-D
