Well, here's a simple reference chart for MerChip!
Back view and side view in somewhat cleaned up pencil sketches, and then the inked and colored reference on the right. I purposely left his arm in the side view reference pose somewhat transparent for references on both his arm and his chest/side, it's not a mistake.
Note also that though in the backview pic his bottom side fins are straight out, but that he usually angles them in toward his front, as in the other two pics. They're actually not on the exact sides of his tail, but somewhat more toward his front.

Like I said in my journal entry, there's really no point to him being in this form except that I felt like drawing a merboy, and I felt like drawing Chip, so I just made Chip a Merboy!

I know the red kinda clashes with him but he's VERY earthy-toned in general and I wanted some brighter fins.
I also know he looks naked cause his tail isn't colored different as many people portray their merfolk, and his body is more shaped like a regular human's, but, well, let's face it! Most merfolk are naked, pretty colored tails or not, and Chip is pretty!
Oops that had nothing to do with anything....

Anyway, I generally like his design, although the coloring is kinda blah. I like his blue tipped fins the best!
