The dragon flew over the city, effortlessly gliding along the building skyline, scanning the streets, alleys, and windows below looking for his next meal. It had been almost a week since he last consumed someone, a tasty young man he caught dashing down a darkened sidewalk late one night. The dragon wasn’t sure why he kept thinking about that boy, maybe it was the way he pleaded for his life. Perhaps it was the way he accused the dragon of only eating those in the poorer sections the city and leaving those alone in the more affluent parts. Whatever the case, he continued to think about the question.
“Do I just hunt the poor?” he thought. “No, that can’t be.”
He had never really paid that much attention to it. Hunting was hunting. You find your prey where you can. It was true that the more wealthy a district in the city was, the more safeguards they had in place to protect their citizens. The dragon couldn’t blame them there, who
