well, like i said, the story isn't mine, so i cant really tell how the writer came up with it, but if you ask me of how i come up with stories, its just mostly because of random ideas, like out of nowhere, i dont like forcing my mind to make ideas, i just let it come to me most of the time, because if its something from force, i would feel unsatisfied.

as for the animation, its just something i imagined while reading and i was like, this could've been a good sfm short (flashbacks of awesome sfm vids passes by), and before i animate, i storyboard it first. The first idea was a close up of engie's face facing down, writing something, while hiding behind a wall, and in the distance, scout walks into the frame. But then I had a better idea, which is the final product that you just saw.
