Little story to go with it.
--------

The early morning air felt great to the Fox Mill team. Jess with a yawn headed to the back to the trailer, so Nettle and Ghost could come out for breakfast. Jess had arrived yesterday with her sisters, Alice and Rose, and Ben came along in case anything broke. Ghost wouldn’t be competing, but she was a welcome companion for Nettle during the long trailer ride over. Their “camp” was set up among other camps of trailers, cars, and made-shift fencing for some of the horses. Jess taking a seat on the trailer’s large wheel looked out into the distance where the obstacle course lay waiting. Soon she and Nettle would be out racing through the course.

The first obstacle the pair encountered was a large log that Nettle cleared with ease. It was a confidence boost for the both horse and rider as they made their way through the unfamiliar course. More jumps and shallow ditches where encountered and easily overcome before a flash of heat stopped Nettle in his tracks. The perlino stallion reared and quickly backed away from the flames. The flame thrower was something new to Nettle, who’d never before seen fire. Jess attempted to calm him but with his rising nerves, Nettle became more and more unreachable. His hoof hit the ground once then again as he started to paw in agitation at being told to go forward when all he wanted to do was go back. Finally he gave in and skirted as far around the flames as he could to get passed them. With his heart still pounding in his chest, Nettle approached the next obstacle. Another ditch stood between Nettle and the end of the course, but to Nettle fear filled eyes the ditch looked like a bottomless abyss. His panicked mind pictures him falling and falling with no end. Then he pictured Jess falling with him and that snapped his mind back to reality. Nettle had a job to do, and he wouldn’t let any abyss deter him from getting Jess to the safety of the finish line. With a mighty leap, the stallion cleared the abyss which in actuality was little more than a dried creek bed.

After they completed the course, Jess removed the heavy saddle and straps, but let the bridle in place. Nettle wandered off toward a water trough not far from where the Fox Mill team set up camp. The temperature was rising so Nettle decided to play in the water. He splashed himself and Jess when she came up to give him a pat on the shoulder for a job well done.

thank you!!

not much to it, it's just a brush I use to make clouds and trees. I thought it might make fire, so I gave it a try

Oh man that third panel makes me nervous; what a great perspective! That ditch really does seem like a bottomless pit x.x but I love that his determination to do well for both himself and Jess gave him that bit of bravery do finish the course.
