Description
*EDIT* Calendar now available through print store-I am working on a calendar for 's year long contest. I will be submitting a picture each month based on a different cryptozoological beast of North America. I've been wanting to give back to my loyal friends and watchers, and I figured, what better way than to offer you a free calendar. You may download this image for free, for personal use only. Please do not abuse this privilege. When all is said and done, at the end of this year, I hope to make a printed version with dates available in time for 2015. (If this works out well and you guys like it, I may do a world-wide version next year in time for 2016. I know that is a long way off!)
This month's cryptid is the NASA Gargoyle. I debated on what monster I should do for this month. I actually had a few different ones in mind, but I finally decided to put in this relatively unknown guy. I have only come across one story of the NASA Gargoyle, but that is not to say there are no other claims of what is describes as dragon-looking humanoids or real live gargoyles bearing the description of "bat-like wings outstretched about 8 ft, huge claw-like feet, and a squarish head with huge, sharp teeth". The NASA Gargoyle was seen perched ominously on one of the buildings , was jet black and appeared to have a cape draped over it's shoulders.
You can read the story of him for yourself here- www.americanmonsters.com/site/…

I’ve never heard of this creature before, is there somewhere I can find out more on it?

He seems to be one of the lesser known ones since there hasn't been that many sightings. You can read more about him here- monster.fandom.com/wiki/NASA_G…

Thanks so much, I’m working on a book of legendary and crypto creatures and I’m trying to find as many obscure ones as I can.

I heard about this on a monster website. They took your picture. monster.fandom.com/wiki/NASA_G… . You might already know but they should have listed your name and given you credit

Nice to see art about the more obscure cryptids! This one reminds me a bit of Ganon from the first Zelda

Some of the more obscure ones are really fun for me because I get to introduce more people to creatures they've never heard of. Plus, since there's usually not too much art out there of them already, it's easier to come up with original ideas. Thanks Oh yeah, I can sort of see that.

Very true. Though there is usually different variations of many creatures even if they are more well known.

True. You really can't go wrong with the classics either.

What if this gargoyle's actually a superhero? I mean, he is wearing a cape...
Maybe NASA was up to no good and he just came flying in to save the day?

Could be, he does give off a very Batman or Spawn vibe to me. To me, the way he is described in the eyewitness account he really sounds like The Creeper from Jeepers Creepers, so maybe he was just looking for a good brain or some nice eyes or something.
lol

At least we only have to worry about the Creeper once every 23 years... lol

pyro-helfier In reply to TickleMeHoHo [2014-07-16 23:54:49 +0000 UTC]
Yes but even so, every 23rd year when he was awake binging for spare parts would be absolutely terrifying if he were real. I would just have to hope none of my parts were valuable I guess lol. I'm a squishy American who eats junk food and wears glasses so I don't think he'd want my eyes or clogged arteries at least! I guess I'd have to start chain smoking and binge drinking so he wouldn't need the rest of my organs either. Self-destruction FTW!

TickleMeHoHo In reply to pyro-helfier [2014-07-17 00:36:54 +0000 UTC]
Oh yeah, no doubt. If the Creeper ever was real, he'd be a force to be reckoned with! I mean you can't exactly shoot him with a gun, or stab him, or burn him, run him down with a vehicle, or decapitate him. The movies have already proved that. I guess I should be happy I don't live anywhere near the Midwest - or at least out in the cornfields of Bum-Fuck-Nowhere, USA. At least if you eat fast food you won't have to worry about him harvesting your stomach, your colon or your heart; he'd probably be more interested in vegetarians... Chain smoking and binge-drinking covers your liver, kidneys and lungs. But what about the pancreas?

pyro-helfier In reply to TickleMeHoHo [2014-07-17 02:43:43 +0000 UTC]
Right? I don't live in the middle of the country either but I imagine he could move to another area. I dunno... what messes up your pancreas?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
TickleMeHoHo In reply to pyro-helfier [2014-07-17 04:37:06 +0000 UTC]
Well, after a little bit of research it looks like alcohol messes up your pancreas pretty badly. So I guess binge-drinking does cover the liver, the kidneys, AND the pancreas after all. So yeah, as long as you're a chain-smoking binge-drinker who's diet mainly consists of fast food, the Creeper will have no interest in you whatsoever... Hopefully. lol

pyro-helfier In reply to TickleMeHoHo [2014-07-17 04:45:55 +0000 UTC]
Oh good. Although I don't think I'd have anything to worry about then because I probably wouldn't last 23 years at that rate! lol

TickleMeHoHo In reply to pyro-helfier [2014-07-17 05:32:46 +0000 UTC]

Oh no..I'm 29, in 23 years I WILL be over 50!! lmao

TickleMeHoHo In reply to pyro-helfier [2014-07-17 06:34:05 +0000 UTC]
Hahahaha! Well in that case, if you were a binge-drinking chain smoker and you were 50, you'd look like you were 80... and you'd still have a stoma, and possibly be on life support. lol

This was definitely not one of the usual types, but it is OK. Somehow the idea of a gargoyle or other strange beast haunting the grounds of NASA seems wholly appropriate.

I had strongly considered doing The Vampire Beast of Bladenboro this month but that kind of just sounds like a big black cat and I thought I could have a bit more fun with this one. For some reason cryptid tales are always just a bit more interesting when government facilities are involved aren't they?

I have the feeling that the US Government has more connection to & knowledge of Cryptids than we could ever know, or wish to know.

Yeah, but they wouldn't cuz what we liked to watch then aren't what kids today are into now... Their into some seriously immature and really inappropriate animation now, like the Grim Adventures, A Japanese Potato committing suicide in some Anime about vegetables 0.0, Adventure Time etc...and the songs they sing...oh my god, they don't even know that they are singing about sex in half those songs they seem to like....
It's really sad, which is why I don't want to have kids.
