Description Much, much happier this time around. This is the second time I've redesigned this thing, and I think I've hit it where I want it to be now.

The VTOL-6 Claymore is a big, heavy helicopter, somewhat similar to the Hind but not explicitly a military chopper. It began its life as a multi-role utility chopper. It served the ITG most prominently in search and rescue, long range maintenance, and general transport roles. Regular Civilian versions lacked the ventral machine gun position, which was installed specifically for the ITG so that they could operate more safely in conflict-heavy environments around the world.

After the forming of the Coalition, most of the ITG Claymores were pressed into service as military transports. Not long after that, the "Bastard" variant was developed, which was designed to mount a rapid 80mm cannon along with hardpoints for some secondary missile armament, generally consisting of two 24-round rocket pods. The Bastard utilized secondary and tertiary cargo holds for storing munitions, so personnel transport capability remained.

Though lacking the tactical flexibility of an attack helicopter's wide-tracking turret gun, the Bastard proved to be useful as a long range "sniper" unit, able to accurately engage targets several kilometers away, due to the cannon's gyro-stabilized mounting. All Claymores also enjoyed a sturdy airframe with decent armor, though they were a bit maintenance-heavy for their class. They are also reportedly awkward to fly, requiring special training to effectively pilot - especially in combat. Their worst drawback, though, was the cost of construction - the Claymore was an expensive helicopter to build. Fortunately for the ITG, their immediate access to deep fossil fuel deposits gave them the buying power to field an exceptional number of Claymores, such that they became an iconic part of the ITG's public face.

I love the bomber styled nose and cockpits. It just looks so right on this

Thanks
It makes a handy way of distinguishing the design.

It definately helps to set it apart from anything else I've seen before. The Fenestron tail helps with that too. Keep up the great work

Is it bad that I totally wish I could get you to design vehicles now? This helicopter is beautiful~

Aw, thanks! It's one of my favorite designs I've done :3

I want to make a 3d model of it sometime, actually...

I like the rear gun. Would be really handy when disembarking troops. Or shooting that dumb bastard who dares aim a stinger at you when you fly by :3

I'd be open to considering if I wasn't already concerned with so many other things right now, I'm sorry to say

Yah thats fine. My life took a bit of a U-turn so im a bit pinned too. However I started working on some infantry AT weapons. Mostly just shit scribbles atm.

Geezus, you just gave the Mi-24 HIND a steroid boost.
But wouldn't the 80mm on the side give her a turning kick the wrong way, while if building centered inside, she won't swing?

Also, you could still use those old VTOL-6 sketches as normal VTOL attack choppers, but rename them as VTOL-5s or VTOL-4s? The VTOL-6 is just the long range sniper/heavy transport.
Like the Mi series, Mi-10 and Mi-26 were supper heavy lifters. Mi-8 and Mi-17 were troop carriers, later equipped with some rocket pods for self defense/ground support. And then the lovely Mi-24 HIND, heavy gunship, with later version Mi-35 (engines on sides added to give more thrust/speed to the heavy bitch to make her actually hover). And then the late one, Mi-28 Havoc.

It's a rapid cannon in the sense that it can fire about 20 times a minute (about every 3 seconds), so it's not like it's an auto cannon. It's mounted to the side as a true interior spinal mount would require building the chopper around the gun itself, but this was meant as a retrofitting upgrade. This way, they can just gut out the area ahead of the main troop transport hold - which is a storage area normally - and put in a gyro stabilizer mount that gives the cannon a good steady aim independent of minor variations in the main body's orientation during flight.

As for reusing the designs; I suppose I could, though right now I feel like they share too many of the identifying features of the current version; the angled tail plating, the tail rotor itself is nearly identical, and the main rotor housing and other things. I might use them as a base to develop a different design though, in the sense of taking their basic layout and body style and having that be the framework for a new chopper.

Hmm, the 3 second delay would give the chopper time to auto correct.

And yeah, forgot about the gyro stabilizer you mentioned.

A lot of the Mi's share same stuff, so nothing wrong there.

True enough, there are a lot of things that share similar features. I dunno, I might use them again for something or I might not XD

Tank-copter, that's a sweet design. The plating just behind the rotor reminds me of a Combine vehicle from HL2.
