Description Severus Snape. Drawn for the 'Thank you, Severus' challenge for the dA group Spinner's End. This is my interpretation of a canon Snape who didn't have much going on in his life that made him happy. So I thought, what if he had a talent for music that gave him the escape he needed. So this is my gift to him: a Stradivarius a la Sherlock Holmes, to thank him for putting up with all that crap for so long.

Ink pens on bristol board. Inspired by Gustave Dore's spot illustrations. You have no idea how much trouble Snape's left leg in the background gave me! I'm still not 100% happy with it, but am submitting anyway.

Thanks very much. He would play melancholic music though, wouldn't he?

Definitley not joyful! Maby something like the Devil's Trill? A bit cliche, I know, but I do think that piece would fit here perfectly - due to how it sounds not its title .

I am actually ignorant of that piece, so will have to look it up and listen when I am home from work, but the title seems apt.

I'm not sure canon!Snape would, myself, because how could he learn being from the background he was from, unless he learned later in life, but was there any time what with the teaching and the spying and the kowtowing to two masters, but... my fanon Snape certainly does!

Maybe not, though he doesn't have to be a PRODIGY. After all, it's a hobby

True. I'm not suggesting that it is out of the realm of possibility, merely unlikely. After all, he does have an artistic soul.

Have you ever read A Series of Unfortunate Events? There was a teacher in one of the books who LOVED to play the violin but was terrible at it XD

True, even if his students loathe him.

Well I'm actually having a hard time trying to decide if he's a good teacher. You can be an absolute expert on a subject, but if you don't know how to explain it, then you're not a good teacher.

The problem with the books is that it's from Harry's point of view, so we are presented with a bias of someone who personally does not get along well with Snape. Is Snape a bad teacher or Harry a bad student or both?

This is really nice. I don't know how to put it into words, but this just feels like it's him. <3

Thanks, my dear. For once the hands didn't give me trouble. Although I keep drawing them too small for his frame. I think maybe it's because I have disproportionately small hands compared to my face, so I keep drawing everyone else's the same way. Sorry for the tmi!

D'aww. He reminds me of Paganini here. The hair, the nose, and of course the violin, among other things. Nicely done!

I looked up picturea of Paganini, and yes, there is a definite resemblance! And of course, people thought Paganini had sold his soul to the devil to be able to play so well. Thank you.
