Could also be titled "Loki worm". It's got the horns and the colors to go with that name.

the white background is pretty snazzy because it doesn't take away from the awesomeness of the sandworm, which I do think looks rather a lot like Loki's battle armor.

Maybe in most cases, but I really think any background color would look pretty bad with this one. In fact, I had a some background color when I started (I toned my canvas and didn't bother to color inside the lines), and it looked awful so I got rid of it.
