Conceptual vehicle for Toria's desert people.My idea is that these walkers were once used for something else (war machines, maybe), and once they were no longer needed, they were left to rust. The desert people bought/stole/were given them, and got some of them working again, using them as vehicles for crossing Toria's large desert belt. The canopy can be pulled down and stretched over the platform in the event of a sandstorm.
These are basically Toria's equivalent of camels. It's not uncommon to see caravans of them winding their way among the dunes, moving from village to village, selling their wares.

This design is totally awesome! A bit more detail on the sand and maybe some faint, distant clouds might put some extra 'pop' in the image.

A rope ladder, probably. Rolled up on the platform when not in use, and tossed down when people need to be on the ground. And I'm sure someone could just climb straight up its legs. I suppose the platform could also be lowered somehow. Not sure how.

Nah, I don't think so. The idea is that this technology is pretty much obsolete and half broken down in any case. It's kind of Toria's equivalent of a camel. If they had better tech, they'd use it.

I'd guess they either scavenged or were given the obsolete walkers, and just repaired and improved them with the money and technology they gain from trading. I see the desert people as nomadic merchants.
The walkers are good for desert travel because of their height off the sand and their protection against sand storms. Their height is also allows the people to see farther, which is crucial in the desert.

I'm not sure, but I have nightmares that involve massive robotic vehicles, sometimes sentient, wandering the settings. They may not be dangerous, but their presence adds to the tension

It's mostly a place for me to dump all my sci-fi stuff. I tried to be serious about worldbuilding, but I find it very difficult to be serious about anything. Sooooo it's just kind of gathering dust.
