Description And the quest continues ...

Sure, the Deku tree was dark and creepy, but not so dangerous. Apart from the boss, all the enemies could barely even move. And then you enter this hellhole. Literaly. Explosions and lava and flames everywhere. Think about it, even the frigging bats would set you on fire! And I still can't avoid those stupid mini-dodongos who just jumps up straight in your face. I don't think any other dungeon has ever given me so much panic as the first time I played through this.

Wanna see the other temples? They are right here.

Heh. On my first playthrough I was killed by King Dodongo and was too afraid to go up against him again. My brother beat him for me.

hex535 [2010-08-09 17:15:31 +0000 UTC]

you always do these amazing frames into the actual dungeon. like, on the first one, the tree and wood border, and this one, it looks like someone just smashed into the ground, or concrete, and it right there gives the feel of a cave.

and the colors fit just right. you always do a really good job with fire and the way it lights up an area, so the ambiance from the lava off in the distance, diffusing into the natural colors of the rock look bad ass .

amazing work per usual, I'm loving this series!

Qlockwork In reply to hex535 [2010-08-09 18:54:33 +0000 UTC]

Yep, that's a theme I'm going for. A bit inspierd by those old children's books where the pictures would be inframed. I always liked that. C:

And thanks a lot for the kind words! I tried some new stuff with the lava so I'm glad you liked it. As well as the rest of the series, because there will be more coming up.

Qlockwork In reply to Lo-Ruke [2010-08-09 18:47:12 +0000 UTC]

I can't do that either. Both games have their own strenghts and weaknesses. OoT does have the nostalgic feeling of course ... and I think it has a bit more replay value, since you get into it much faster than TP.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Lo-Ruke In reply to Qlockwork [2010-08-09 19:03:05 +0000 UTC]

True, true. Although TP defiantly has a better sidekick. I never really had a problem with Navi (I don't actually find her all that annoying) but Midna has more personality and depth to her character. And TP has the magic armor, even when you run out of rupies Link still looks badass.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Qlockwork In reply to Lo-Ruke [2010-08-09 19:15:25 +0000 UTC]

yep, Midna had a lot more personality than Navi, but that kinda goes for the rest of the cast too. Though, I actually found Midna to be more annoying than Navi. People whine about her because she tells people things they already figured out but .. hey Midna does the same. Just even more. xD But she was still cool.

Hmm, the Magic armor looked awesome yes. But I hated that stupid little baby. Taking all your money all the time. Almost as bad as Tingle.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Lo-Ruke In reply to Qlockwork [2010-08-09 19:42:48 +0000 UTC]

if it weren't for the baby, the magic armor would be just a decoration. As for Tingle...there is NOTHING that could possibly be as bad as that creepy, cheap skating, child molester.

I'm actually thankful to Midna and Navi for being repetitive because I often forget what I'm doing, and I HATE just wondering around aimlessly.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Qlockwork In reply to Lo-Ruke [2010-08-09 20:00:31 +0000 UTC]

Haha, we're quite the oposite then, because I'm pretty good at remembering what to do and I hate when someone tells it to me. Also, I kinda enjoy to wander around aimlessly ... well, for a while. One time I was stuck for a month in Wind waker. It was a bit too much.

And yes. Tingle is a horrible person. The only thing I might dislike as much as him, that would be the owl from OoT. Did that one even serve any purpose?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Lo-Ruke In reply to Qlockwork [2010-08-09 20:56:03 +0000 UTC]

I think the owl was put there for the first-time players, I can't come up with another possible explanation. As for my memory, I'm not actually THAT bad at remembering stuff, but sometimes things like this happen:

"ok, so I have to go to this area and-AHHH! re-dead! Kill it! kill it! kill it! I killed it!...and what was I doing?"

I hate re-deads, they haunt my dreams.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Qlockwork In reply to Lo-Ruke [2010-08-09 22:03:12 +0000 UTC]

Well, guess that's true. Though I thought he was annoying even the first time I played it.

Ugh, yes. I have some love-hate relationship with the re-deads. I used to be more like:

"ok, so I have to go to this area and-AHHH! re-dead! Fuck this shit I'm outta here!"

... and then it took a whole year before I dared to enter the Shadow temple again. Resident Evil and Eternal Darkness got nothing against them in terms of creepiness.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Lo-Ruke In reply to Qlockwork [2010-08-09 23:23:51 +0000 UTC]

No kidding, I was scared pissless the first time I encountered a re-dead while getting the sun song. I still wonder if the psychological scars were worth that little tune. How can someone have a love-hate relation ship with those undead rapists?

Ah yes, the Shadow Temple...good times. It was two years after getting the game before I had the guts to go in there (I was such a pansy when I was a kid). The first time I went in there, I had the TV on mute, big bloody help that was. The Well was nasty too.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Qlockwork In reply to Lo-Ruke [2010-08-10 12:17:56 +0000 UTC]

Yes. I know the horror. Had I known that the sun's song would paralze the zombies it would probably have been worth it. But it took years before I discovered that.

Well, I hate them because they scared me more life, I love them for being able to do it. I dunno why really, but I tend to love all the things that scared me as a kid.

Pansy? Naaah, being scared shitless has to be the most normal reaction when beign in the Shadow Temple. I've never met anyone who doesn't have dreadful memories of that place. Yeah, the well ... I was so happy when I was done with that and jus: "Oh, yeah, freedom! Grass, happy colours! No more scary stuff ever again!" Yeah, right ...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Lo-Ruke In reply to Qlockwork [2010-08-10 16:53:11 +0000 UTC]

In a way, the well is worse because it lulls you into a falsehood that you're in the clear. Then you get to the shadow temple and you find out that the well was just a warm up. I gotta say, Link has balls of steel, going through the well when he was just 10, and then going through the scarier shadow temple seven years later (or fifteen minuets later depending on how you look at it).

Although, the temple's TP counterpart (the arbiter's grounds) wasn't so bad, maybe it's because I'm older.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Qlockwork In reply to Lo-Ruke [2010-08-11 22:32:25 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, that's true. And when you're a kid, you're weaker so it does feel a bit uncomfortable.

Well, of course he has balls of steel. He has the triforce of courage! Or, as we say at my place, he's just to dumb to realise how dangerous all those things are.

Well, I think that if I was a kid when I played TP, the skeletons (especially those who screams) in Arbiter's Grounds would probably scare me a lot. But the atmousphere ... nah, it's not as bad as Shadow Temple. It's not as dark and the music isn't as creepy. I could be wrong of course.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Lo-Ruke In reply to Qlockwork [2010-08-11 23:28:07 +0000 UTC]

Nope, you're right. the grounds are more of an ancient ruin scene rather than a crypt like the shadow temple. Though those large poes would have done me in if I was a kid, I gotta say. The sub boss was creepy too, not as creepy as Dead Hand, but creepy none the less.
