Description

A while back someone asked if I could do a world map for one of the entries in my national embiggenment series (soon returning to a webpage near you), specifically my US-wank. Well, after fiddling with it on and off for a while, finally developed the motivation to finish it. The US in this world rolls a bunch of sixes and ends up developing a "Pan-Americanism" ideology, which goes beyond the OTL view that everyone secretly wants to be an American, to a view that all people _can_ become Americans, and US ability to take in almost anyone and make them eventually a hard-working, dollar-chasing American patriot as an indication that one day everyone on the planet will one day be US citizens. (Admittedly, even the biggest enthusiasts admit absorbing China and India is sort of a long term project.)

Although this is a wank, there is some opposition, for one must have challenges if one is not to become too complacent.

After Europe had an atomic version of WWI (with biowarfare thrown in) *Red revolution overtook central/eastern Europe, although in 2020 the Syndicalist powers are increasingly at odds and struggling economically (although the Danubian and Eurasian versions of Syndicalism are less economically idiotic than OTL Soviet-style command economics, they have run out of easy inputs from rebuilding from the Atom war a while ago, and are struggling with a manpower shortage in spite of considerable efforts to promote big families, particularly in Transbalkania)

And then there is the Return of Asia, although the Chinese and Indians have their own differences, with India looking to create a unified Non-European World Order while China just wants to be Number One again (with less access to US markets and a much larger US economy to begin with, they have a while to go yet).

The sheer mess of Europe has forestalled any full-blown atomic arms race, although all the major powers (the US, Italy, Danubia, China, Eurasia and India) have a fair number of them and means of delivering them. The US has moon bases, because of course it does.

The US is perhaps a bit overextended, and besides rumblings in England and Africa the slow and steady progress of Americanization of Mexico (several Mexican states have abandoned their Autonomous status, except for retained bilingualism, in bursts of Americo-patriotism) has been brought to a screeching halt by a new movement based in the Mestizo and Indian experience, whose exponents loudly claim they don't want to be US-ians with "an interesting regional culture", but Mexicans.
