Description
This was my submission for a final project in my college classes. I was finally allowed to use digital media so yippee! Unfortunately, I had only 3 days to complete it so I did what first came to mind. Taking reference in pose and lighting from some fantastic Halo artwork I decided to translate it into a piece featuring the legionnaires of the Lunar Order. I am not a digital painter usually, so it was a big learning experience to complete it, but I am generally happy with how it turned out, even if the lineart does almost all of the work. I enjoy drawing their armor and I hope to get out more soon.
Legionnaires usually come from the moon, inside of domed cities with atmospheric controls and a day/night cycle that takes 4 weeks to complete. Because of this, while they are incredibly familiar with the night sky and living on a timed schedule compared to following the sun like earthlings do, but with the Eclipse Wars in 2074, many legionnaires have been sent to Earth to finish the fight against the Collective. Earth provides many hazards, beauties, and strange environmental factors a space-born human must adapt to, which can be jarring for some. Being so used to small gardens and greenhouses, a forest can be overwhelming; air-conditioned cities make snow completely foreign; the sun and night come so fast that it might be their first time seeing both a sunrise and sunset in one time awake; and of course, rain and wind are about as alien as seeing the surface of another planet is to us. Sometimes, things are just too different for Lunars to adapt to.
