There was nothing more they could do but wait. Be patient. Her body would need to fix what was broken; heal wounds that could now only be kept clean.

Mutt, Lyza, and Ruby made the rounds each day to change her mossy dressings, apply balms when possible, and keep her heavily sedated using their strongest herbs to help manage her pain and keep her still. Visitation was limited to only those in Shiloh's original traveling party, yet only one wolf stayed with her around the clock -- Alice.

She held little interest in exploring Riverfell or socializing beyond the den in which Shiloh recovered. Not yet. Not until she was sure the worst was over and they were truly safe. It took repeated visits by the Sages for Alice to trust them fully, as her fears were constant that an assassin or loyal follower of Rhaegar would try and finish his work.

Not on her watch.

For the most part, Alice remained near the den's entrance to keep guard. But sometimes --later in the evening or when she was certain no one would come around-- she would lay closer to Shiloh. Whether it was concern over her staying warm, just being sure she was still breathing, or her own desire to seek comfort from a familiar presence, Alice often found herself repeating a phrase both in her mind and whispered out loud: don't you dare give up now...not after all we've been through.

And it was always when no one was looking.

I made this little sketch several weeks ago and decided it would work great to illustrate part of Shiloh's early days in recovery! YazukyYuu decided to help me get it done more quickly by inking and doing the BG. I did the sketch, flat colors, and minimal shading.

Fun fact -- Shiloh has no idea Alice was there for her like this. Fleeting, foggy memories of waking up and seeing her nearby are the best her mind can muster. I equate it very much to when people are in the hospital and very rarely remember their experience, but...friends and family will never forget what it was like and the trauma it can leave on their hearts and minds. :')
