Description
"Waiting and Watching" Sometimes waiting for the perfect moment can be a deeply spiritual experience, sitting, waiting and watching the universe turn on it's endless journey across the night sky for hours on end. The nights are never truly dark but instead filed with endless wonder, magic shimmering lights and undiscovered secrets.Here is another view from a different angle that I shot earlier in the evening -

We Are....We are but a moment;
A ripple across time's face
That flashes in the captured sunlight
And then is gone
We are but a moment;
A star shooting
It's final path across the heavens
And then gone
We are but a moment;
The twinkle of an eye
Before it closes its last
And is gone

Step 1 go to the beach, step 2 attach camera to tripod, step 3 take photo, step 4 edit as desired and post on DA ha ha, sorry I couldn't resist.
You can find all the metadata details down the bottom of this page... scroll down.
I haven't done anything special to get this shot but we have remarkably clear skies here meaning the milky way just looks naturally amazing, you can even see the Andromeda galaxy with the naked eye. So my tip is get a super sturdy tripod (consider a tripod an investment, it will last you a lifetime so always choose quality), get an intervalometer and go somewhere dark with clear skies, use the brightest star in the sky to lock your focus.... there should be some good you tube tutorials that offer a detailed walk through on how to best achieve this... and keep taking shots until you nail it.... good luck!

Wow - is that the milky way? This is just amazing... a sky like that, and an ancient stone like a guardian of the heavens; it's just magical

Thank you, I'm glad you like it and yes that's the milky way. This is fairly typical of the night skies here in Australia, we're quite lucky to have such clean air and lots of empty places full of wild nature with no people to spoil it.

Um, thanks but I assure you no one really wants to see me in my field clothes which usually involves either being covered in mud or dripping wet wile wearing a torn jacket that's about 5 times too big for me and over sized steel capped gumboots... it would just make everyone jealous with how sexy I am
.... In case your confused that last part was sarcasm, if it wasn't for the shiny camera equipment hanging off my neck you'd probably mistake me as a homeless vagrant which is why I avoid selfies at all costs LOL.

are you saying it was a piece of cake to make this shot? looks like hard, dirty work to me

LOL, I was sitting on a tropical beach in paradise under the stars.... yes it was just exhausting, oh the horror. Honestly I usually just set up all the gear and set the focus, plug in the intervalometer and wander off exploring the beach wile the camera does all the hard work, sometimes I do yoga to pass the time too or I just watch for comets and iridium flashes, it depends on what mood I'm in.
