Description EDIT: What the hey - I threw in one more row for some additional faces suggested by friends. And a couple of extra spaces left just in case

TL;DR;

….ya lazy buggers. Read the WHOLE description if you want to know more!! >P

Well, here it is - 20 years ago this month, the channel we've come to love first aired on satellite and, despite the "Marmite *" content they're broadcasting nowadays, has left a huge impact on all of us old and new alike.

*Marmite - as in "either love it or hate it" ---> [link]

Now for the lengthy, boring stuff behind the making of this tribute.

* The style I chose is a simple one: a stylised outline of the featured characters above with "loose" (and slightly off-model) line arts. This is to A) test the geek knowledge of how many characters you can name; and B) to represent CN in its earliest years, as in "foot loose and free" before viewing qualities became lopsided.

* I've tried to go in chronological order (as in the years of which shows first aired), with familiar classic characters slotted in-between; but for the final two row I threw in various faces to even out the picture a bit. Which leads me to my next point:

* I'll be honest when I admit that I did not include EVERY character or EVERY show here. Had to keep the numbers down so as to leave room for the next show in line. Thus we have a small amount of characters representing their respective shows / spin-offs (Numbah 5 for "KND", Grim and Evil for "Billy and Mandy", Frankie for "Foster's Home").

* But there are shows I have excluded for two further reasons: either I didn't watch them at all or, for those I did watch, didn't care for at all. So "Problem Solvers" and "My Gym Partner is a Monkey" miss out here.

* The same goes for Scooby-Doo, who I left out deliberately. TBH, with 11 TV Shows, 7 telefilms, 19 direct-to-video / DVD features and 4 live-action movies, all in a space of 43 years, the mutt has enough material to launch his own digital channel. So it's unlikely anyone could forget him. Not like how CN used to air "June Bugs" or "Flintstones Week" anyway.

* However, I did try to include as many as possible, plus the semi-recent shows that CN seem keen to push long and hard on. I maybe a nostalgic chap, but I'm not biased!

* And if anyone is curious, I created this in a space of 3 to 4 days est. Each character profile was done in one Photoshop file, while the whole poster was rendered in another. If anyone protests about the shows I did leave out, then by all means I'll redo it at a later date. But I'll stand by my argument by representing the best that CN has / had to offer. ie; their original, home-brewed content. Next to showcasing those from the Golden Ages to a whole new audience.

So….yeah. That's all, Folks! Who knows what'll come next in another 20 years.

Fat Dog Mendoza. So far as I know, the series never aired in the US, but it was once broadcast semi-regularly in the UK.

Thanks for reminding me! Gotta get on that myself (good timing with Halloween too!)!

I was definitely a Cartoon Cartoon kid (as opposed to Nicktoons, on average at least), and the Cartoon Cartoon era will always be my favorite era. I give you plenty of credit for including some of their later-era shows (which do show that they are improving after a few years of pretty meh entertainment), a a nice job on stylizing all of these characters! Keep up the nice work, pal.

I also see shows CN picked up from other networks.

Very nicely done indeed, a simple yet colourful tribute. I recognise most of the toons here, with the exception of the odd new (and they're some of the newer ones, no surprise).

Excellent tribute!

Totally agreed about Scooby-Doo. From the time he premiered on Cartoon Network, they've always assumed that EVERYBODY loves him. :-/

I don't really care about all the flack Cartoon Network has taken over the years. It's always managed to make me smile. It's not like every show on one channel can be great. It's catering to different audiences.
I'm not into they annoying orange series but my brother and sister love it. I'm not gonna trudge on their happiness like the joy police.

Quite a commendable post this - also doesn't hurt to change channels either from time to time

Exactly!
I cant believe i used to be one of those users complaining about whats on TV. I'm more mature now and realize that theres much more important things for me to think about than whats on tv.
But still, i tip my hat to CN.

Very well done indeed! I recognise quite a fairi bulk of these characters too, even from the simplistic (but cleverly so) style. Mainly, I admit, the older characters, but some of teh newer ones too. Well done!

I'm surprised you left out Pink Panther though.

Yeah, mah bad there. But at least I included a hefty amount of HB faves to make up for it

Also: Cheers!

I was always more of a Cartoon Network kid than a Nickelodeon kid, so this brought back lotsa memories.

And thanks for leaving Problem Solverz out. Looking at that show actually causes me physical pain in the eyes. I ain't kidding.
