Description
After the Rus' essay, I'm going to do what I can to not TL;DR this |'DAnyhow, Gaul or "Gallia" as Rome named her.
Because she is most likely a girl, though most of the other ancients were never entirely certain (well, except Rome, of course). Oldest child of the semi-mythological Grandmother Celt, Gaul idolised her mother and lived her life as close she could to her legacy, even using her name where she could to declare her rightful heritage.
As with most of the other ancients, she and Rome had something of a love-hate relationship. Despite finding him attractive and intriguing, much of her interest in him was spoiled by his attempts to control her - she was far too much of a free spirit to let him to tell her what to do. That, and much about him just plain pissed her off - they'd been bickering ever since they first met as children, and when they did occasionally come together, their seemingly cheerful and friendly conversations were fraught with underlying aggression . Their relationship didn't escalate into full blown war until Rome tricked her under the pretense of friendship β offering his assistance in fending off attackers before taking the opportunity to strike her from behind.
The years of fighting which followed eventually left Rome victorious. Defeated, Gaul's pride and spirit were mostly crushed, and whilst she readily accepted he had won, a part of her clung to the past, holding on where she could in shame of having failed her grandmother.
Two possibilities for her end - Firstly, she could have stayed until the arrival of the Franks (which Hidekaz has said he has considered making a character of), and was killed when they took over. Alternatively, finding her strength and will growing weaker each day, in the end her only choice was to leave, placing her children under Rome's care (Belgium, Luxembourg, Holland and her successor son of the same name who would grow up to become France under the influence of the Franks). She headed East, joining Great Grandmother Anatolia whom she'd often visited as Galatia where she lived out the rest of her days.
She often comes across as brash, vocal and blunt, but what seems to be a loud and energetic exterior disguises an active and manipulative mind. Rome always saw her as 'feisty', not beyond getting into brutal brawls when words were no longer enough. Whilst she and Germania both had their feuds with Rome, they despised each other all the more - especially when it came to whose kids were whose.
I'd be lying if I said she wasn't inspired just a little by Asterix.
Again, disclaimer that this is a rather simplified version of events (I don't like getting individual tribes involved or everything would just go nuts). played with the idea of making Gaul the same as Celt, but in the end I decided it would probably work best this way due to Celtic origins being so crazy. Though this does mean I now may need to do a Celt portrait orz
Ah, and she does mostly fight with a sword. I just wanted to draw her with an axe :β<
Next on the list - Baltia/Aestii.

Well, that all depends on whether or not you see America and Canada as little brothers of England and France (as in the comic) or their sons (as is liked by some percentage of the fandom). If it's the latter, then there's certainly a connection of sorts.

You know obviously more about Ireland than Gaul, please check your history before talking. Histroical inacurracies are tiring.
During Gallic wars (which lasted 8 years), one million Gaul rebels died, one other million was enslaved and around half a million mutilated for example. On a gallic population estimated to 7 / 8 millions. That's huge (at the end of the war, we may even expect that most of the valid surviving persons were children and older people). Ceasar was considered as a war criminal by his contemporaries for what he did in Gaul.
So Francis was surely more courageous than what you think, and obviously followed his mother steps... He obviously faced a far greater roman opposition than germania or britania. (Gaul was very rich and developped at that time than the two others, and probably interested much more the Romans).

And to finish with, in case one would consider that it was Gaul (and not chibi!Francis) who lead the war against Ceasar, I would differ. But it is open to discussion. Most recent historical and archeological studies show that Gaul adopted roman civilization very quickly from 100 BC on. Gallic civilization declined quickly then. When Caesar arrived in Gaul, the economical and cultural links with Rome were intense. Gaul was dying, maybe almost dead already... A new romanized country was taking its place. So for me, it would be more accurate to say that it was chibi!Francis (young and torn between his old gallic and new roman inheritance) who was leading the war.
But that is my personnal interpretation.

Me: No she was the one who tried to get Francis to be a warrior, that was Franks' role in Francis's education, teaching Francis how to cook, of course Francis hated that his mother would always push him to the limit in battle skills...Iggy I imagine had a better relationship with his mum, right Iggy?
Arthur: Mum was the best, she was a beautiful, kind, wise woman who would always tend to my wounds after Ireland (Oldest sibling, a sister, Erin Γ³ hΓalaighthe *means Ireland of Artists),Saxons (Aethelwulf Arrowsmith *noble wolf*), Scotland (Eachann Mac Dhonnchaidh *horse lord), Wales (Ithel ap Yerward *Generous Lord in Welsh), and Northern Ireland (NΓ©all Γ³ hΓalaighthe *Cloud of Artists*)...in fact *blushes* she was the one who taught me all I know about magic, Rhoswen Una Kirkland was her name, it means White Rose of Unity in Gaelic. *blushes*
Me: Awwwwwwwwwwwwwww..............Iggy.............I'm sorry I brought up sad memories for you
Arthur: That's okay, I just get upset whenever her birtday comes around as well as mother's day *grumbles about Alfred not knowing his own mother as well as he knew his own*

...Wow, I actually figured Arthur's mom died when he was pretty young, but spent most of that time with him, hence Scotland's dislike of him. I did figure the magic talent came from her! ( Arthur) Any way, I will keep to my belief that Mama Gaul had a more feminine side of her that she passed on to Francis, cooking. This belief comes from the fact that (using this picture) Holland is most like her personality wise, and Belgium looks the most like her. And since I figure his more perverted side came from the time Grandpa Rome spent with him, cooking came from her.

Morrigansfury In reply to Page-Mistress [2010-05-05 12:59:12 +0000 UTC]
Me: Well Rhoswan was a druidess in my mind so I like to believe that she was the one who taught Iggy all he knows about magick *New Age word for magic* and herbalism. In my headcannon Arthur has an herb garden filled with basil, borage, catnip, chamomile, carnations, comfrey, cyclamens (for keeping nightmares at bay), geranium, heliotrope, honeysuckle, hyacinths, jasmine, lavender, lilac (healing spells), marigolds, poppies, roses (they are the national rose of england, plus they are in memory of his mum), various kinds of mint, rosemary, rue and other herbs and plants I can't name off the top of my head that can be found in England. And you can keep your belief that Aoife taught him cooking.
But it is funny that we both believe that Arthur learned all his magick from his beloved mum, I came up with her name after looking for good celtic names. Right now I'm stuck as to her apperance: I think she must be the parent that Iggy got his green eyes from as well as the sight. I do feel that the time she was around influenced Arthur's whole life as well as his point of view to a certain degree
Arthur: *upset over his beloved mum*

...mother......*tears begin to roll off*......how could you have left me alone..........you dissapeared into the sea, I...was seperated from you...

Well according to the late Brazilian professor of nuclear physics, Prof. Arysio Nunes dos Santos, Atlantis actually was located in Southeast asia, the continent atlantis while the city itself was located in what is now off the coast of Indonesia, that the land itself contained modern day India, Indonesia, Malayasia, a small number of the Okinawan islands, a small part of the coastline of China, the pennisula that contains Cambodia, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam as well as North and South Korea. If you have read Plato's books on Atlantis, he mentions elephants and isn't Laos known as the land of elephants. Also people have found what appear to be ruins made of stone off the coast of Yonagumi, an island located in the Okinawa islands.
