She was extremely concise, saying matter-of-factly that she was there to give it everything and therefore she wished for everyone’s constant support to make sure it wasn’t in vain. Even in the simplest movements, like standing up and bowing to the headmistress, she just radiated control and bridled vitality. And there’s a truly uncommon intensity in those hazel eyes of hers, like she is much older and wiser than any girl her age has any right to be. At this point I know what you might be thinking. It is hard to describe her without looking like I am making stuff up, but she truly has a magnetic presence. I just could not take my eyes off her and maybe that is the reason why I did not catch her Slavic surname when she first pronounced it. Only a couple of days later I found out that it is spelled ‘Švrakič’ and pronounced sh-VRAH-keech. Her name at least is an easy one to remember: Dava. […] The headmistress welcomed her like she did with everybody else, but added that her presence in the school will be an experience for all of us as much as it will be for Dava. The day after, while chatting with my new classmate Adrienne, she brought that up. She claims that that sentence is code to tell the classes that Dava is a metahuman without saying it directly.
